Decluttering and ruthlessness!

Currently trying to declutter. We aren't moving, but plan to in the next couple of years. It's really hard to bin 30yy of stuff like photos, as they are so sentimental. I binned all the cd's but then DH says he wants to go through them again.

I feel weepy already and I've only done half of one side of the kitchen!

How on earth do you do it? Maybe it's easier if you actually have a house to move to and you have to de-junk?

Allira. Following on from what your friend said I always say: do I need it, can I live without it? Depending on the answer it either goes or stays.

I also say this when out shopping.

Good advice Madgran77, especially the going through it once more
Something's need a just once more decision don't they?
It's heartbreaking to throw away something that you will never be able to get back or replace. ๐Ÿค”

I used that system when I had a major clearout. I can honestly say I have had no regrets about my decisions and I think that's because of that double consideration for the maybes! ๐Ÿ™‚

DH asked why he's putting away the same number of large Christmas boxes that he took out as he thought I was going to cull some things.
The problem is, it's the wrong time of year to donate Christmas decorations.
They are all tidy and labelled. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can donate to charity shops who will probably have a "seasonal stock" area to keep them for Xmas 2025 ๐Ÿ™‚

I declutter room by room. Good progress in January.

One of our granddaughter is now moving house.

My husband is helping with modernisation to her home, removing walls, paint, flooring. Easy projects. I'm clearing out things we don't need - she can use in her first little home.

Presently I have "kitchen stuff" and linens sorted to the shed.

The question will be does she want old granny stuff?

I have clothes at the back of the wardrobe and keep thinking "I might wear that again" but I never do

I turned all my hangers round one year so the hook faced forwards.
As I wore stuff and put it away again I put them in with the hook facing backwards.
The theory is that whatever is still facing forwards after a year is no longer needed.
As the year went on some poor garments didn't even last that long, out they went!
