It’s an ongoing task. One area leads to another. But I did find a stash of cash in a letter rack!

Paperwork really is an on-going task. All I did this week was my tax return along with a request to be taken off self assessment

I have been working all day, sorting skirt patterns and getting rid of any I now know will not fit, nor flatter, this comfy aging figure of mine. No point living in the past. I only removed one actual skirt, having done a previous cull

I have not started on tops and can see dozens, with not enough skirts. The skirts I like best on me include a 6 gore skirt that I made in black a while ago and ended up wearing it to my husbands funeral. It still fits and flatters me today so that pattern is top of my skirt patterns and I cut one out today, in a lovely barkwood fabric

Also I love a pull on A line skirt, I have several in linen and cut another today in cotton, plus a neat top. That means 2 portions of fabric stash are removed to become nice wearables. There are no dresses that need culling, I have tried them on and they are all lovely

Tops need doing, several will need to be removed and also some paper patterns and quilted things I have made. I am finding this job exhausting

Yesterday I started serious soring and packing. One bedroom is fully packed, apart from what the removers will do.

The heap in the garage for the Boot sale has grown even larger. Late in the day we packed it all in and at 6.00am this morning were up and about with an estate car packed to the brim heading for the Boot Sale

11.00am had us making our return journey wth beaming smiles. It wasn't that we made a huge sum of money - we didn't, but the thing we sold were all the big bulky things, including a large coffee table we nearly didn't take because we thouh it wouldn't sell at a boot sale - it did! Plus a large heap of garden containers from a B&Q 99p bucket to one huge round container with handles. All sold to one person for a tenner! Everything else are good a charity shop would take. This gives us a big space in the garage to dunp stuff for the next Boot Sale in a fortnight.

Oh MayBee , I can relate to your story about your parents. Mine threw everything of my childhood away, including all photos.
My one consolation is that no one can see the dodgy fashion choices I made in my teens.

We all did that!

I’ve sorted through some old newspapers from the loft.

One had details of my Granddad’s death, which was why it had been kept by my mum, (1947). It has gone into the recycling bin.

One had our wedding photo and report in, 1972.

That was retained, the rest of the news was so interesting, local jobs, property sales, adverts….oh happy days!

That’s what I like looking at in old newspapers. Old adverts for cars and electrical appliances! I had an old newspaper that I’d kept because our local football team had got into the premiership and it had an article about my partners father, who sadly died quite suddenly just as he was about to retire. Thankfully, because of the pandemic, we switched to an online newspaper which has saved me no end of clutter!

M0nica

Both of the above reported.

Am I missing something, M0nica. Why have you reported them??

valdavi Sun 25-May-25 19:08:40

I've been through my woks, frying pans, casseroles & saucepans with a magnet, as I'm getting an induction hob with the new kitchen.
So the ones that aren't magnetic are either out in the garage for the tip, or in a bag for charity shop. I could throw them all away really, as I haven't bought any saucepan or frying pan in 10 years, & they have all earned their keep.

M0nica Sun 25-May-25 19:51:58

I reported two spam emails advertising drugs for sale. HQ have quite rightly removed them totally from the thread.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 26-May-25 07:29:20

valdivi, if your saucepans are OK, just not quite good enough for a charity shop, could you offer them to a foodbank?
My old ones were seized with enthusiasm by someone in rented accommodation with one pan!

Good advice.

I often take unneeded housewares to our Church for their foodbank. I teach cookery classes, however some people have no pans, tins, or whatnot - food and gently used housewares are well received.

Ahh! That’s why I asked the question, M0nica! Thank you.

Crossstitchfan Tue 27-May-25 00:55:36

Oh good grief! I have just spotted that way upthread M0nica was asked, and replied to, a question I have just asked her! (So sorry, M0nica).
Honestly, I get worse!

I have had good days of de-cluttering, patterns, several have gone and I have turned 5 lengths of fabric into 5 summer tops in three styles. Lots of scraps have gone into the bin

I am seeing more space appear in my sewing room, happy days. I needed the tops for summer this year and beyond

Had a wake up call after hurting my back ( thankfully it was muscular and is getting better). Hardly being able to move this morning I looked at the chaos around me and wondered what on earth I was going to do if my back didn’t improve. So I’m going to do another list to keep me on track. I’ve also been able to contact my ex as I need his help regarding the leaking garage roof.A fit for purpose garage would turn my life round.

karmalady Tue 03-Jun-25 07:13:37

Oh yes Maybee, that garage roof needs sorting, I hope it is done for you soon

Very slow here again and I have added more long-term food to my storage. My intention had been to work through it all but there is so much news on the potential for war conflict and food shortages

fancythat Tue 03-Jun-25 09:01:23

long-term food?
As in prepper dried food?

Glad about your back MayBee 70

fancythat Tue 03-Jun-25 09:02:23

I am still bogged down by paper.
Progress is very slow.
Enough said about it for now. I bore myself!

MayBee70 Tue 03-Jun-25 09:20:10

I can now move again but my hip is painful. I’ve never had a pain in my hip before. Bit worried that it happened after I saw an osteopath about my knee ( he’s quite brutal). He has helped me in the past but I was 15/20 years younger then. Found the telephone number of a man who fitted some blinds for me a few years ago. He’s going to fit a blind in the back bedroom, the only room that now has a new and fully repaired window. The plaster round the other new windows is still cracking. It’d put me off having any other windows replaced.I have asked my daughter to repair them for me ( she’s very good at DIY). It’s the only time I’ve ever asked her for help. The garage roof is a nightmare because there’s no easy way of channelling the water away from it. We built an extension at one end of it and built a soak away into the roof which doesn’t work properly as the water channels towards the wall and leaks into the garage and, in the other direction into the porch. And it has dangerous asbestos lining the roof.If it channels another way water will pour into my neighbours driveway. On top of that it’s always covered in pine needles and cones from the overhanging trees.

Georgesgran Tue 03-Jun-25 09:35:46

I’ve come to a stand still with the decluttering - my mojo must be stuck on Cyprus. I was determined to get back full of energy, but mainly just good intentions so far.
I’ve have ordered some replacement window units and have the carpet cleaning booked.
Taken 30(!) Tshirts and tops to the Hospice shop, but that’s about it.
I feel there’s so much to do and that I’m running out of time.

tanith Tue 03-Jun-25 09:36:58

I thought I had posted on this thread but possibly the previous one. I’m due to move in 2/3 months and my garage is now only containing what is coming with me apart from a ladder and a bench which hopefully ex son in law is taking those.
I took the last of the stuff to the dump yesterday and 2 folding chairs I left in the driveway were gone by the time I came back.
I’m well pleased with my progress and after I thought many times I CANT DO THIS ALONE I’ve now got the house cleared of lots of things I no longer want and my new house won’t be filled with ‘stuff’.
I wish you all well in your endeavours.

fancythat Tue 03-Jun-25 10:24:38

Running out of time in what way Georgesgran? The normal way like us all, so to speak?

fancythat Tue 03-Jun-25 10:25:19

tanith - that all sounds excellent.

Very well done Tanith, I know how hard it has been for you but a new slate now and a new beginning. Feel proud, you deserve to
