Recliner sofa and chair

We just press a couple of buttons and the recliner becomes an ordinary leather settee so during the day that is how it is. In the evening we press the magic buttons and stretch out. I never thought of it as an old person’s piece of furniture. Chuck a couple of throws from Temu over it!

Yes. Eames chairs (with or without the footstool) have never gone out of fashion as so beautifully designed 😍

As you say - not recliners - though you are naturally reclined if using one.

We bought a couple of 2 seater sofas that reclined but needed foot stools (which I HATE). The seats of the sofa were too low for me and my knees hyperextended, so we bought another recliner chair with its own leg rest and its brilliant. It doesn't rise though to tip me out. I guess that's the next thing

We have recliners and love them, I don’t care what anyone thinks as they are so comfortable. I do have modern decor and they go together well. Snazzy cushions look good ,we never use them but they look lovely..

I have 2 large sofas one is a recliner.
They are both GPlan bought them about 8 years ago, very comfy and they are still doing the design, so must be popular still.

We also bought GPlan but were never happy with them for the ‘old folks’ look, so we changed and bought Parker Knoll but I do miss the reclining button on the side!

We bought a recliner and a sofa(Parer Knoll) about 50 years ago. We never felt the room looked like an old people's home. It was my late husband's; he loved it. The recliner cost £400.00 back then the sofa considerably more. We had both recovered in a Sanderson linen fabric, and it still looks good. You get what you pay for.

My son and daughter-in-law in America have a very "upmarket" huge leather sofa which has recliner options as part of the construction. It isn't noticeably a "high back" design but is certainly comfortable...

You wouldn't guess to look at it that it was a recliner at all.
It was, however, stupidly expensive - and could only sit well in an enormous room!

I think there are interesting ones out there... but there are 100s of ugly ones!

As ours aren’t electric, we have to exercise our legs every time we stand, in order to push the footrest down, and use our muscles to push the back of the chair into reclining position, or thrust ourselves forward to sit up again.
Then we still have to stand up and sit down, just like an ordinary chair.

I have two seater and a three seater G Plan sofas. The two seater has electric recline and you can plug a phone charger into it which, being a lazy old bird, I find very useful. DH hated recliners (he would mostly be found sitting on the floor with his back to any sofa anyway!) so it’s always been my domain. They’re very modern looking and not at all “old people’s home”. The battered old Parker Knoll in the conservatory, however, has very much a “Martin Crane” look about it, but I love it! It was made when they weren’t importing the mechanisms from China, but making them in this country, so it’s still going strong.

I had Ercol reclining chairs and they were very slimline. Sadly they became a bit wobbly with use and age after 15 years. We did though manage to sell them on along with the non reclining sofa. Someone thought they were worthwhile spending money on to restore. Some recliners do have a care home look about them but if you are happy with them that's what counts.

We bought recliner chairs for our first home after we got married! We got a sofa in the same fabric - not reclining. I wouldn't be without them. I never thought of them as old fashioned. I used to suffer from swollen legs , especially in hot weather so recliners enabled ne to keep my legs up. Whenever we went on holiday to somewhere without them I strted to suffer after a few days. Thankfully I've now lost a lot of weight so don't have a problem most of the time but I still love to get my feet up when I'm relaxing. My current furniture is leather and all originally reclined, though most of the seats no longer work so I sit in the only one that still reclines! When I move house I'll be replacing most of it, but it will definitely be recliners again.

Every style I looked at had the 'nursing home' look about it, until a really helpful shop assistant suggested we look at riser recliners in the three piece suite section. She said we could buy them as separate items without the sofa in any of the ranges available.

My daughter saw an advert for a leather sofa and chair, all recliners which was being given away. She requested if it was available, as her sofa was beyond repair, and the family very kindly brought them over to her house. What impressed me was that this recliner sofa and recliner chair has controls on the INSIDE of the arm. Every recliner chair or sofa I've seen, including the recliner sofa I have has the control on the outside of the arm. With painful shoulder problems, draping my arm over the side of the sofa is quite uncomfortable. I've searched on the internet and discovered that these controls are called Kaidi recliner controls. I can find replacement parts but it seems no manufacturer in the UK makes recliner chairs/sofas with this controller. I cannot emphasize how much easier it is to use the controls on the inside of the chair arm!

A very timely thread for us. DH had a swivel chair with footstool. Since my heart problems ive had swollen legs in the evening helped by keeping them raised so have taken this over. He sits next to me and now has a footstool which I always managed to trip over as I exit the room. We have been thinking of two recliners sideby side or a two seater couch.
(We have a large three seater couch but commander by DD and GC.)
