Stressless Chairs

I mentioned on the thread about reclining chairs that we are redoing our playroom. We currently have a battered old sette which we need to replace. I have persuaded DH that recling chairs would be good.

He now fancies Stressless Chairs- does anyone have any opinions on them - apart from how flipping expensive they are.

Thank you.

No, we are swapping the sofa for reclining chairs so, yes please.

We had an oxblood Ekornes Stressless leather recliner years ago. I didn't find the lumbar support too good and the leather felt rather slippery and clammy. Eventually the leather cracked quite badly. They may have changed since then, of course.

My current G Plan recliner chair is fabric which I prefer.

We have Stressless chairs and love them. So comfortable and would highly recommend. Our friends have them so we were able to try before we bought ours. They are expensive but worth every penny. Plus they aren’t as bulky as some recliners.

We had Stressless chairs for about 20 years. They were great and the only reason we’ve not bought more is because my needs have changed.

I’m sat in mine reading your post, I saved up for one and hoped I’d like it and gosh it’s so very much worth every penny for me, it feels very supportive for my back but at the same time extremely comfortable.

We each had an ekornes stressless in leather with the footstool. They were never very comfortable and we eventually gave them away. They gave us backache and could not tilt back far enough to be called a recliner. I saw them lately and the leather has deteriorated. I would never buy them again

We have 3 stressless chairs of different ages and designs. My late father bought one and liked it so much ( he needed to rest a lot) I sourced a second hand one ( in a simpler design) for him to use when my parents stayed. The simpler one ( one size regular back length) was not as comfortable for him, ( and I got back ache in it) but is now liked by our taller son. I ( shorter) find my father old short fit chair very comfortable. Dads has an extra ring on its base, to raise the height to make it easier to get in and out.
I think it’s important to get the right style and fit. Dads was very expensive but what must be 10 plus years later it is still in good condition. The two bought second hand are now probably 20 plus years old ( at a guess) and the pale beige one in a tougher leather, looks tattier than the softer gold one.

I had one, awful bloody thing gave it away 😊

Stress less chairs come in different sizes, you must get the right fit.
They will recline to almost horizontal but there is a knack.
You need to go to a good retailer with well trained staff who will help you get the right chair for you.

We have Gplan fabric recliners we both like them .

I bought this one instead, Ribble valley recliners delivered it by hand all the way down to somerset. My most used chair and I love the zero gravity position to take the weight off my back. Leather is still in lovely condition. I would buy a Fjords chair again

Mine was made by Fjords and the leather is normal leather, not shiny and crinkly. Manual chair.

My husband suggested I bought a Stressless recliner for my 60th. We went to a retailer in Glasgow. There are a bewildering amount of choices! Three different seat sizes, different styles (all at different prices). Then there are different leathers each in a range of colours. Oh, and two “leg” styles.
Honestly, I was prepared to walk away! But I sat in a display model and it was a perfect fit and the seat turned easily, another display model , on a different frame didn’t turn so easily so I felt “trapped” by the footstool.
I’m often overwhelmed by choice but, I suggest to DH I got the smaller display model, and, as it was below my budget, he got the other chair as it had been perfect for him.
That is why I have two Stressless recliners in different colours and on different frames!
I don’t really care how things look, it more important what they are.
So my perspective is, there is a mind numbing amount of choice but go to a good retailer and take your time. They are expensive but, like a good mattress, they are a worthwhile investment. Think how long you will spend sitting on it.
I have never regretted buying the chairs and I feel I got a bargain which helps!
Good luck, take your time enjoy whatever you purchase.

I love my Stressless Chair. I might as well be glued to it! It was expensive but has lasted the best part of twenty years and still looks as good as new. It has a matching footstool and I often put my feet up for an afternoon nap. Unlike me, it shows no signs of wear!

Aveline Sun 11-May-25 12:15:56

We absolutely love our Stressless chairs and stools. We also have a matching Stressless sofa which stools also fit well. We'd definitely buy them again if that day comes that they need replacing. They're 13 years old now and look like new.

Thank you all for your input. Stressless seems worth looking at and they should see us out by the sounds of it. Xx

We bought 2 large stressless recliners (second hand) for our conservatory.

They are SO comfortable the adult children try to jump in first when they visit.

If my DH has a bad back we move one into the sitting room for him to use.

I would have no hesitation in buying them again.
