Hot water taps

Anyone else have one of these. When I had my kitchen re-done three years ago I had one installed. Ever since I had seen an advert. for the Quooker, I had wanted one.

I did not get the quooker, but my installers put in a FRANKE. He put the actual tank away behind the kickboard, so it took up no cupboard space. Fell in love with it from the start - instant boiling water for drinks and cooking, etc.
A big filter does take space under my sink, and I read the instructions, and towards the end of 12 months purchased (very pricey), new filter. So easy to change, turn tap, unscrew and screw on new one, turn tap. All done I thought until suddenly I had only cold waterna couple of days later.

Note, not only does this system work that special boiling water tap, but also the actual hot water tap in my sink. When it does not work for any reason it means I have no hot water in the kitchen. Fortunately, I did keep a kettle.

Kitchen fitters called iback in and after about an hour on the floor and much of the time looking at their tablet they worked out that just putting on the new filter is not enough. the machine has to be hand adjusted and re-set. You really would think that modern technology would enable this to re-set itself when a new filter is installed.

One year on, I called in daughter, and = again using u-tube, she managed to get it re-set. This year she decided she is getting too old to get down that low, so brought along her youngest (14 yrs). Last year I tried to write down what she had done, obviously got it all wrong as that did not work this year. Me in a panic.....Telephone call to son-on-law (an engineer), who looked it up and directed instructions. All done now - so for next 364 days I will just enjoy using it and (almost definitely), have another panic when it all needs doing again.

Franke is not a cheap alternative to Quookers. I would like to know if quookers re-set themselves or require this sort of annual palavar. And, although I appreciate that the kitchen fitter put this tank behind the kickboard to give me more cupboard space, he was not really thinking about how I would be able to get to it for this re-set each year - although I suspect he did not know about it.

Anyone else have any makes of these - How do you get on with them

My InSinkerator tap delivers near boiling water and filtered cold water. It was worth any penny and if we ever move, we'll be getting another.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 28-May-25 16:47:41

Didn’t realise that Insinkerator made hot water taps.

I have an Insinkerator food waste disposer in smaller kitchen sink, it is 27 years old (has been in last two kitchens)

Trixee Wed 28-May-25 16:15:54

Another thumbs up for the Insinkerator, no problems at all.

lizzypopbottle Wed 28-May-25 15:56:49

icanhandthemback yep, same here. As I said up thread, my InSinkerator is the best thing ever!
4allweknow My InSinkerator near boiling water tap only does what it says on the tin! It delivers near boiling water. Nothing else.

Had a Quooker for the past 5 years no problems at all and in my previous kitchen I had one for 6 years, no problem with that either.

Couldn’t do without one now.

Was that hot water taps in general or Quooker ones specifically?

We wouldn't be without ours.

That’s how I feel.

There is no way I will ever go back to a kettle, I am very happy with my Quooker, it is only the boiling water tap as the fridge has the all singing and dancing cold water/ice functions.

A programme on Radio4 a few weeks ago did not recommend these "quooker" taps so I'm no having one.

We have the cheaper version of the hot tap, the Insinkerater. It has been brilliant for the last 14 years. Any Fixes have been simple and the company have been a joy to deal with, so helpful.

My friend has one and thinks it's wonderful. I think they are quite expensive though.

I am quite happy with a kettle. The more complex something is, the more chance there is, in my opinion, for it to go wrong.

I love ours. It's a Perrin and Rowe and I would have one again everytime. We've never had a problem with it.

I didn't know that P&R made hot water taps or I might have had one. Much of my objection to Quooker is that I don't like the look of them, but the P&R ones do look good,

4allweknow Tue 27-May-25 18:22:03

It's the cost of these boiling water taps. I don't know if you can have one for that function alone but I do know the ones with sparkling, filtered water are expensive to run as family members have them and have moaned about the cost of replacing the gas cyclinders. Not for me, kettle is sufficient.

^As for Induction hobs, still so many people do not understand why they are such an improvement.^

I love my induction hob. When I need to boil a pan of water to cook pasta, it's far quicker to put the cold water in the pan on the hob to heat up than use the kettle.

Yes, I've given up using electric kettles now and use a very nice looking stovetop kettle instead. It has a whistle too!

We had a cheaper version fitted with the new kitchen lat autumn.
It has a smaller tank so doesn't take up as much space in the under sink cupboard.
DH wanted it ,after using DS's. I wasn't fussed at first but I am won over.
I love making my mid morning coffee in my French press with hardly any waiting.

I suspect it depends where you live.
Soft water areas I suppose are less likely to get furred up.

Our longstanding and much trusted plumber steered us away from a Quooker on the grounds that they are high maintenance.

I have had mine at least 10 years with no problem. It is good Dutch technology.

If you look at the picture of mine you can see there's a push/pull lever that operates the tap. Push and hold towards the tap for slow stream, pull away from the tap and hold for faster delivery. You can't 'turn it on' and leave it running so it's less likely to scald someone thinking it's an ordinary tap. My son-in-law did doubt that it was near boiling when we first got it, about seven years ago, but he didn't test it with his fingers more than once! It's not an all singing all dancing model that delivers cold, sparkling, filtered, any temperature you choose etc. like the expensive Quookers, but you can't mistake it for an ordinary tap. However, we do have to have an ordinary hot/cold tap.

I have a Quooker that just gives boiling water not one of the all bells and whistles type and would not want to be without it, so useful and no hanging around waiting for a kettle to boil. It did go wrong a few months ago but that didn't affect the other taps in the kitchen and at that point it must have been at least 15 yrs old. I'm in a soft water area and engineer suggested a 3-yearly service if I find it becoming less efficient. In a hard water area I think they advise annual services. No need for me to ever change a filter.

lizzypopbottle Tue 27-May-25 14:02:15

I've got the InSinkerator near boiling water tap. It's the best thing ever! It was way cheaper than the Quooker and takes up hardly any room. It does away with a kettle and only delivers the exact amount of water you want rather than the wasted bit left in the kettle. I love it!

Grannyof8 Tue 27-May-25 13:57:10

We've got a Grohe which is great. It needs a new filter every 600 litres but easy to replace, though not cheap.

Visgir1 Tue 27-May-25 13:45:04

I have just come back from spraying with my chum in France. She had one of the original "Quooker" taps for the last 15 years, with no significant issues, she couldn't live without it now.

The water from my tap is 98° - so perfect for tea.

Also good for coffee, not supposed to pour boiling water on coffee as it makes it taste bitter, apparently.

Brother used Howdens for his kitchen & unfortunately doesn’t remember what brand of boiling tap was installed.
