Blocking the drains, stupid woman.

A leaf blower is the most pointless of garden tools. I fail to see the point of them.

I have one.
Given to me as a present in good faith.
5 years later, it is still in it's box.

Let me put this scenario to you.
My young friend has 3 children. On is a severely disabled autistic.
One day the autistic son decided to smash his bedroom to firewood, together with urinating on his mattress.
Because of cramped conditions the only place for the rubbish to go was outside the house.
Then there’s the next problem: they have no transport and aren’t flush with money.
Too many people on here live in La La land where the other's
concerned.

If your old fridge freezer still works, you may find people eager to grab it on Gumtree, Facebook marketplace or a charity like Emmaus. Our old one was snapped up via Gumtree.

Just to add for anyone thinking of reporting fly-tippers to the Police it was very easy. I reported it either by e-mail or phone ( or both) I can't remember. Police came round to the house and I gave a witness statement. I didn't have to appear in court or do anything else.
Several other preople apparently had reported them also.
Just so you know.

I agree that there is never any excuse for fly-tipping. It started to happen in an unadopted lane behind our then UK house at the bottom of some woodland on a bend in the lane.
I confronted one lot of black-plastic bag disposers who , wholly pleasantly , jollied me along and persuaded me that it was OK because their mate owned the land .
A second lot weren't nearly as smart. They bullied and threatened me and that frightened me but also seriously p*** me off. So I took their van registration number and reported them to the Police.
The result was a £1000 fine for them which may not have stopped them permanently.
RANT loads of pink plastic discarded toys typed rubbish were dumped and the lane can only be accessed BY CAR . So these are lazy so and sos well off enough to drive a car. Not some little old lady who can't make other arrangements.
A curse on all their houses.......

There is no excuse for fly tipping but it's clear to me that some is caused by the difficulties arising from inadequate Council services and the high costs levied by some Coucils on householders and tradesmen. We need better Council services in general after years of Tory cuts.

I live in a first floor flat with no garden but I suppose I could put my rubbish out on my balcony or take it round to my allotment and dump it there. But I can't see the other flat owners or the allotment committee taking very kindly to that.

I have cleaned my car out after my tip trip, a very nasty job, and I found a few maggots that had dropped out even though I double bagged.

and you solution when someone is unable to get rid of something at the localtip, or get a contractor to take it away unless they are prepared to pay a sum beyond their ns, is what?

Should we live with our front gardens full of decaying white goods, building materials, decaying heaps of leaves and garden trimmings because the tip no longer accepts them

Fly tip in our own gardens? and what happens if you live in a flat?

surely it would be best to check dates for pick up BEFORE putting the old one on the pavement. But should you not arrange for supplier of new one to remove old one on delivery, for a fee.

We've got an old fridge, working well, clean, in the garage but no-one wants it free of charge. It seems a waste to just send it to the tip.

Well, yes, we did.

However, when the new appliance repeatedly broke down I'd have happily had the old one back again!

As I said previously, the repairman left us with several large parts to dispose of ourselves.

I am beginning to understand why people fly tip but I still think it is unacceptable. Local councils need to provide better services to reduce the problem instead of just being outraged and blaming the tippers.

FranP Do you not realise that this thread is all about the way access to recycling centres is being restricted and the range of waste they take limited. many people have taken stuff to the tip and been turned away, and do not know what else to do with stuff they can no longer use.

At one point, when DH was doing some minor DIY work we had half a sheet of plasterboard to get rid off. No tip in our county would take it. so we placed it in the boot and took it with us to France, where we then had a holiday home because we knew that our local dechetterie there would take it.

Not everyone has such portable waste or possible alternative disposal centre.

We have two recycling centres (same LA) equidistant from us. One is very restricted in the parking spaces, queues are ridiculous, the skips are squashed in anywhere (many up steps) and the staff are grumpy. The other is just the opposite and the staff extremely helpful. More than once I've written to the council to commend the staff. I haven't told them that they sometimes turn a blind eye to the odd item that they technically shouldn't accept. They are also often on the look-out for anything that could be sent elsewhere - for example we once took an old mirror and they put it aside for a local charity shop to sell.

That said, our council tax is among the highest in the country and other services are pretty dire.

As long as it is on your property then the neighbours will just have to put up with the sight of it or take it to the tip for you.

I think there are regulations about this. WEEE regulations say the retailer is supposed to offer or help you to remove or recycle household electrical appliances. Including fridge freezers. My Husband is always going on about it.

... in the EU, whoever delivers a new apparatus has to take the old one away. Simples!

I'm not sure if it is still on offer but AO ( the electrical company) collected my brother's old cooker. from a first floor flat. The service was less than charged by the local authority and the people also took it down the stairs ( the local council wanted us to take it down the stairs). We did not have to buy a new item. They even collected it on a Sunday and were a very nice pair of lads. Look at that service

My friend is a scrap dealer & I've been out totting with him. They won't take fridges or freezers because they have to pay quite a bit at the recycling centre so not worth their while.

As it was a small one though i managed to get it in the car, and fof a pedmit and droppes it off there and cNxelles the collectuin ans fir my money baxk

AO do a collect and recycle service for appliances...if you put your postcode in a price comes up, fairly comparable with council charges or free (it's free in my area.

When I replaced a freezer a scrap metal merchant took the old one - that was a few years ago, mind you, not sure if they take such stuff now
