How do you tackle housework- regular routine or as and when (lighthearted) (lighthearted)

I absolutely detest any sort of housework; it bores me into a coma, including window cleaning!

The second I rented my first flat at 18, 42 years ago, I took on a f/t cleaner, and I've had them every time I've moved to a new place.

I've had Tony and his husband, Martin, for about 10 years, and they always leave my flat immaculate!

And Paul cleans my external windows each month, leaving them gleaming!

Gosh no cleaner for me, 4 bed house and widowed. I like the pottering, do a bit most days and that keeps all the cleaning manageable. I like the exercise too, the going up and downstairs, the bending and stretching

Priorities for me are my allotment, my cycling and my crafting but cleaning a bit every day is very easy to slot into my lifestyle. I do basic cleaning and include my windows in that, I don`t over-polish and I can be a bit untidy when I bake or craft but so be it. I thoroughly enjoy my purposeful life

Thank heavens I've never been a wife or a housewife, I wouldn't know where to begin!

I do just enough to keep it looking more or less presentable - as long as you’re not actually looking for dust.

Somewhat more if guests are coming to stay.
I hate housework!

I am the opposite of housewifely virtue, so I do follow a routine first thing in the morning because I hate doing it, and I’d rather not have to think about mountains of housework that need doing. I stick to a list of set tasks, then do what I want to for the rest of the day.

Some good responses, Casdon I'm a bit like that, it does help if you can be bothered to get it out of the way and enjoy the rest of your day.

My house looks clean and mostly tidy, but there are no pets, children or men to make it dirty.
Untidiness is ongoing sorting.
I don’t really have a routine for housework, but somehow if chores haven’t been done, they get done on Saturday morning- a relic of working days, though I did have a cleaner then.
My most hated job is window cleaning.

I sort of make my bed every morning, I like it shaken out and turned neatly down to air. My major cleaning is done on Monday and the rest of the week is whatever required. I am not overly tidy at all in fact my family will probably say I’m a bit a cluttered/ hoarder.

I have a window cleaner once a month to clean the outsides, I hoover every second day, pollish maybe weekly, do the inside of the windows when I feel like it .the toilet gets cleaned every day.

I do what I can when I can. As long as I’m hoovered and tidy most of the time that’s good enough for me!

I just shut the doors on the bedrooms we don’t use. Out of sight is out of mind. When I see any dust anywhere I wipe it off. I iron something when I want to wear it. But I always make the bed every day.

I’m sitting now drinking tea whilst Tracey my robo vacuum (named after a cleaner I had) does all the hard work!

I clean downstairs on a Wednesday, upstairs on a Thursday and tend to do a couple of tasks each day such as polish photo frames, change beds, clean windows.

The only task I hate is ironing, I am not very good at it!
I do however love putting all the laundered bedding away in the airing cupboard.

We have always had a cleaner and I'm not giving her up now.

It’s pretty reasonable. Clean and dust free, mostly. I’m a bit erratic about housework as it comes second or even third to other things. But if visitors are expected we have a full on , deep down , all over clean.

Love the idea of a robot vacuum cleaner!
I am the opposite of you Sago, I don't mind a bit ironing (especially in the winter, it warms me up!) but hate putting the stuff away.

I’m houseproud but don’t like housework (who does.) I find the best way to keep on top of it is to have a set routine and keep the time to no more than 30 minutes. I have a day off for good behaviour on a Saturday.
I’m anal though. My mum was lax about housework but once dad retired he did it all (not cooking/laundry.) He wrote it all out on the wall calendar and I’m a chip off the old block.

My house is ways clean and tidy when I go to bed and wake up....no cleaner ...me and partner keep on top of it ourselves....tidy as we go ....clean kitchen and shower as we go...horough clean of bathroom once a week....floors mopped twice a week.....I only work part time tho ....if GDs come, they make a big mess with craft and drawing stuff and blankets and just get stuff put everywhere....its all left until they go ( whether there just come for a couple of hours or a couple of days) then we do a quick blitz to get it clean and tidy again ....I actually enjoy cleaning and tidying 🤷‍♀️

I am in the same camp as kittylester I had a cleaner whilst working, and have one now.

I try my best to keep our house clean but a little while later it's back to what it was before! Still, people always seem happy to come here which is good so I shouldn't moan

In dribs & drabs, whatever I feel like doing.
If I do a chore it will be done thoroughly. But the days have gone, where I would be at it all day, on my day off.
We are decorating at the moment, all the furniture is piled into the conservatory, so sat here on GN, in what what feels like Steptoes yard 😂

We've dogs - I hoover daily, make the bed, clean the kitchen whilst cooking, wash inside windows often and leave cleaning to our cleaners.

Years ago some friends wanted to get married on a Tuesday as it was cheaper but were told "you can't do that, it's the day Mum does the ironing"

I do the work that needs doing until 10am.
After that, I do what I want of it, at a pace to suit me on that particular day.

It never occured to me that everyone does it different from each other!
Well, apart from those who have a cleaner.
