Toilet lids

I had the downstairs loo redone about seven years ago but now the lid has forgotten how to soft-close and crashes down, sometimes before I’ve even managed to sit! My ex says that they never last long& that he keeps having to replace his. I’ve only seen one YouTube instruction on repairing them, so is that it? Just buy a new seat and lid or put up with the crashing? I hate the thought that it can’t be repaired. What have been your experiences with soft-close toilet lids?

I do think if you're used to a soft close one and come across one that isn't, it can make a lot of noise if you forget!

I broke a loo seat in a premier inn as Im so used to our soft close ones and just let it slam. I was so embarrassed but the receptionist told me not to worry.

I had to take the one off our downstairs loo apart last week and adjust it. Amazingly it worked and I'm not sure what I did, just tightened some screws and hoped for the best.
