New washing machine

I always check the spin speed first as if I do have to tumble dry it's cheaper, Mine is a milo and have had it years but it is on it's way out as used a lot.

We love a Samsung.

Had Bosch machines, current one around 15 yrs old and (touch wood) still going strong, especially love the fact that I can select to shorten all programmes giving me quicker washes at all temps and can set time and speed limits on spin drying. Would definitely buy again.
Friend of mine has just bought a new Miele machine and finding it difficult to work, too technical.

Have had several Bosch machines over the years. Only downside is that new parts tend to be expensive. Would not touch any Beko product with a bargepole. An engineer told me that the one machine which he is rarely called out to investigate is a Blomberg.

Also, apart from filters bunged up with coins, dog hair and keys, the worst offenders for clagging up the works (in DWs as well), are the plastic coated washing capsules. They don't always dissolve, especially during the cooler cycles.

Best advice is buy the one with the fewest programmes as you will only ever use about 3. I have a Miele and a Blomberg. Both many years old but never let me down.

My Bosch has a spin only programme which I use a lot. It also has the facility to increase the water in a larger load. It runs on what we call Bosch time ... it can add minutes if it thinks it needs it!

yes, I have an AEG which has an 11kg drum so you can a lot in, saving on water and energy. It also has a quick 20' wash for less than 3kg. Recommend.

Mine is a Miele and I find it fantastic. It’s eight years old now, no problems at all, although I probably should t be tempting fate. I have a friend who has a Miele that’s 25 years old, never had a problem or a call out. I think a spin speed is important, I wouldn’t consider one that doesn’t spin at 1600 if I’ve got that right.

I am quite disappointed in my Hotpoint machine bought because of 1400rpm spin, 9 lb load and extra rinse facility. Once plumbed in I realised that getting these three things together means a cycle of over two and a half hours. There are so many restrictions on each programme, load, temperature ,spin speed etc. even one programme where you can only use powder! So my advice is look hard at the programmes available to see if they give you what you want.

I'm on my second Samsung washing machine (first one left when house sold) and have been very pleased with both. However my Samsung heat pump tumble drier is pretty rubbishy, so my advice is to not get one of those.

Thanks for all your advice. I have taken the plunge this morning and bought a. BOSCH. Fingers crossed it lives up to expectations!

I'm sure that you've done the right thing. I look at the Which reports and generally go for a Bosch as they are highly rated, though they last so well that I rarely buy one.
Most machines now have a button you can use to give you a more economical wash (in terms of power and water) and also a delayed start button so you can make the most of cheap power.

I am so pleased with the response I have received. My new machine will have a spin only programme and the option of shortening programmes and changing the temperature.
Chosing a new washer is quite stressful, so much choice. The job even more difficult because my DH s Alzheimers has been raising its ugly head- he kept asking me why we needed a new one . Quite happy for me to buy one but unable to remember what was going on!! Also asked me about 5 times within 15 minutes if the delivery people would plumb the new machine in - the answer was always ' yes'

I’m 60 years old and have only ever bought two washing machines both Miele, first one lasted 20 years and didn’t break just got sick of it my second is now 14 years old and still going strong.

Was surprised to see Bosch on ao.com are not too badly expensive these days.

Bosch series 6. Good washer but downside my shortest cotton wash is 1.35 minutes.
My old AEG was 55 minutes.
AEG are a good machine too.

I replaced my Bosch machine with another Bosch from AO … really pleased with it and AO installed it and disposed of the old one plus packaging!

I have a Bosch, at least 15 years old, Rinse/Spin lights up Aqua Plus button, put off Aqua Plus button, and it just spins, no rinse.

My 19 year old Bosch refused to work on 04th January. Researched all the makes and availability and of course those within my budget. As an afterthought I went to measure the space where my old machine was sitting and discovered many machines were 2 to 3 cms too wide. I ended up with another Bosch. I do see water flowing in at the begging. Don't know about during the whole cycle as I'm not inclined to sit and watch. Machine was delivered from local outlet the next day, and a friend plumbed it in for me.

I always buy the store’s brand and have never been disappointed yet. I have a Candy Washer Dryer from Curry’s which has so far lasted 14 years!!

I have a Bosch - Never Again! because as soon as I realised just how little water it was taking in - i.e not even enough to dissolve the washing gel type soaps, that weren't even getting enough water to melt them properly..I realised I either had to do two small washes in future every-time, or stand there topping the machine up with jugs of hot water, until I saw everything sloshing around in soapy water..Its a ridiculous plan to save water, as for me its just not working..especially as bedding towels, underwear all need to have a good old hot wash..

My Bosch runs on Bosch time in as much as it will say 16 minutes left to run but actually recently I sat and watched it and the 16 minutes turned in to 23 minutes time..I wonder if its a German thing..lol..

I've got a zanussi flexitime. I can ask it to wash at different temperatures from cold to 90 Deg and still control the length of the wash so a short 60 Deg wash can take just over an hour. I can put on an extra rinse as well. Wasn't particularly expensive and I am very happy with it

That sounds great.I've got an Indesit and it takes so long on 60 wash :2hrs 45mins which irritates the hell out of me.
