Hi does anyone live in Macclesfield? I'm considering moving there to be closer to daughter's who live in South Manchester.
I love nature and arts and crafts, theatre and walking.

Sorry reread my post and I'm not clear about what I'm asking. I was just wondering if anyone here lives there or nearby and what they think about life there.

My DH was born and brought up in Macc, as were his parents and grandparents and all their siblings. I've worked in Macc in the past, and we have friends who live there, so visit quite often as we're only over the hill in Whaley Bridge. In our opinion it's a great town, with lots going on. There are some really nice areas and the less affluent areas are pretty good as well. The station has trains to Manchester and even to London and all places in between. It's pretty close to Manchester airport too, and surrounded by some pretty Cheshire villages. Also easy to get to North Wales as well as the Peak District and some lovely countryside.

A good selection of shops in the town centre (except M&S has recently closed down) and an indoor market for bargains. Two big supermarkets. I'd be happy to live there myself and both our DDs went to school there.

Hi Madmeg, thank you for your response. You paint a lovely positive picture of the town and this is what I feel whenever I visit.
Could you tell me which are the nice areas and the less affluent areas that are nice too?
We've driven around and seem to feel that Broken Cross, Tytherington are nice and we also like Higher Hurdsfield.
We also stayed in an Airbnb in Bollington recently in the old part of the town which was very sweet.
Thank you again I really appreciate your info.

I live not far from Macclesfield, my D lived in Gawsworth before she moved south, that is a nice area.
I visit Macc occasionally to shop but the shopping area has gone down in my opinion.
There are some lovely villages nearby but the areas I know well, just a little way away, Poynton and Bramhall, although classed as Stockport are were I would live if I could afford to.
Generally speaking the areas around Macc are very desirable, I don’t think you would regret a move.

It's quite hilly ... so for future proofing that is worth thinking about.

There are some lovely villages around and good social life .. and lots of places to walk in the countryside.
