Spider deterrent……. Not….🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️

I like house spiders as they kill the flies which are a real nuisance at the moment. Therapy for those who don’t like them is read Charlotte’s Webb or watch the film!

I evicted a huge spider last night.

It was sitting on the electric piano, and it was so big that i'm sure it would have been playing a tune as it walked up and down, if the piano had actually been switched on!

The big spiders seem to be moving in (or attempting to) quite early this year.

I jad one in here that looked like it was wearing those bonce boppers on its head...

They are getting bigger! And they do bite. My gardener was properly bitten by one, a big brown one with pointy knees and stripes.

You can have desensitisation treatment, available on the NHS.

I'm fairly sure I read that all spiders actually bite, its just that a lot aren't big enough to puncture our skin.
I may be totally wrong on that, though.
Mu friend worked at the hospital, and had a huge, swollen gnat bite come up on her knee.

The dr she saw said it was a spider bite, as are a lot of what we dismiss as gnat bites.

The spiders in the UK don't usually bite and the only native poisonous ones are tiny and have jaws that are too weak to bite humans.
They're probably more scared of you.

Unfortunately, fear at a primal level isn't rational like that. You can tell someone who is afraid of spiders that until you are blue in the face, and it still won't stop them being afraid of the eight-legged creatures!

It's a different, intrinsic fear, I think.
Just the mere sight of them, regardless of whether they bite; its the way they move, their legs, just everything, all rolled up in one awful package.

Terrified of spiders - especially fast big black ones that run like lightning. I have a long battery-operated spider catcher, but am not a huge fan as they run up and down inside the clear plastic tube, too near to my hand.

I tried the peppermint spider repellent but they liked it - it didn't repel. So I bought a spray of 'Nope' spider killer on Amazon. It works. OK, I am wicked, but I can't have a big black thing with 8 legs in the house... so sorry, I wish it was otherwise.

The trouble with just putting them outside is, they are often back in before you are. They are inside spiders after all. You need to move them further away, preferably over the fence and into your neighbours house. 😉

i always leave spiders alone in the winter, in the summer i scoop them up in my hand and put them outside, i stay in a small 4 high block of flats so don't have too many.

I've named my spiders over the years. "Our Boy" "Skinny Boy" and Titch. It has been quite sad when they are no longer around.

I’ve got several different types of Spider Catchers bought over the years but after seeing what a small Cellar Spider did to a GHS about 3 times his/her size I leave the Cellar spiders alone now. If they miss a GHS or any of the others I will grab the nearest Catcher & then evict the caught one at the wild bottom of my garden. Never go in there just to the start & let my Gardener go in & play with all the evicted spiders when it needs sorting out!

I'm still wondering that too. Could it be a giant house spider, maybe?
