We have already bought our oil and logs, so it would be nice to get a bit of help soon!

20/11/12 I had mine. If you a have an online account its coded WFP.
Now should I actually hand it over to DH who pays the fuel bills or should I spend it on me! wink

Reading the above are you and a spouse supposed to get half each of £200 one each or should £200 be shared by seperate payments of £100? I qualified for it a year earlier than DH. I must google it at the DWP site. hmm

I've had the letter but don't know if I've had the allowance. I had a letter last year too but can find no trace of the allowance on my bank statement. I think mine must be a virtual fuel allowance.

Hi Jeni

My father got heating allowance and I got a separate heating allowance when I was 60.
I did get a reduced amount as I lived with my father who was over 80.

My notice of payment arrived this week.£300 now that I'm over 80 !!

Mine arrived a day before the OG's. Don't understand why that should be, alphabetically he is ahead of me, he is older, he is on medication (thyroxin?). Anyway I'm glad it's here!

I haven't received mine yet, but DH has got his - which isn't fair as I feel the cold much more than he does! smile

Yes Greatnan you are correct I checked it on the website as well. Hopefully next year for me then!

Mine came last week and DH's this morning. Thanks Dave [pathetically grateful, forelock touching ]emoticon

According to the official website, you get it if you were born on or before 5th July 1951 and also if you are in receipt of certain benefits.
Mine arrived last week, and very welcome it was too. The snow usually lies here for three months or more. (If it doesn't, it is a terrible season for the ski industry).

We're you Hunterf getting it because of your father? In which case they can claim it back!

jeni Mon 26-Nov-12 21:35:55

I think you can get it if you're disabled or have a disabled household member.

merlotgran Mon 26-Nov-12 21:25:48

I think they've raised the bar a year then. It used to be sixty.

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 21:22:29

I had a letter informing me I was entitled to and could claim it this year.

merlotgran Mon 26-Nov-12 21:20:45

Did you apply for it when you were 60, Ana? You don't have to wait until you are of pensionable age.

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 21:19:31

Merlot, I didn't get it at 60. I only got it this year because I was eligible to claim state pension when I reached 61 and a bit.

marrbarr1 Mon 26-Nov-12 21:14:48

Thankyou Hunterf and merlotgran. I will look in to it. I have been 60 earlier in the year but am not yet of pensionable age. I will go on the website to enquire.

merlotgran Mon 26-Nov-12 21:09:54

Unless they've changed it, HUNTERF. You get it when you are sixty.

Look here

I get winter fuel payments and I am not of pension age.

I've often thought a hippy style commune would suit OAPs. All those combined skills, sense of community and now pooled WFA to keep the crumbling old house warm......Perfick!! grin

marrbarr1 Mon 26-Nov-12 21:03:52

Thankyou for the information Ana. I was rather hoping that you might be eligible for it when you reached the age of 60! Nevermind. Thanks again.

kittylester Mon 26-Nov-12 21:01:13

Blimey Hunter you'd best duck!! grin

HUNTERF Mon 26-Nov-12 20:55:01

Flowerfriend

Larger houses cost more to heat so pensioners which occupy these houses should get a higher winter fuel allowance.

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 20:51:21

You are entitled to it when you reach pension age, which will of course vary. It doesn't matter whether you're working or not, marrbarr1.

Hi I am new to the Forum. Can anyone tell me when you are entitled to get the fuel allowance. Can you get it if you still work? Thankyou.
