As people who are receiving higher occupational pensions have often paid a lot of income tax during their working lives should they put a limit of £4,000 a year on the amount of income tax to be paid by any one pensioner per year.

I was always told "Those who can do, those who can't teach" any moral there?Fighting words I think.

Hi Oldgreymare

Were we in Cardiff at the same time?.
I was there from 1967 to 1970 and I thought Barry was the only teacher training college in the area at that time but it looks as if I could be wrong.

Nothing to do with this but I was told by a child a few days ago his father was a teacher.
I did not believe him at first as I knew his father was a builder.
When I spoke to the father I found out he had changed jobs and was teaching building at a local college so the child was really correct.

No, not Barry. Definitely Cardiff and not motor mechanics or building either smile maybe I would have been better off (even bigger smile emoticon)! My pension is too small to tax!

Quite so, Galen. flowers

I never say ' I lost my husband! 'Makes me sound careless!
He died!

No, phoenix, it has to be euphemised these days...wink

Anne58 Tue 19-Mar-13 20:40:06

Doesn't anyone ever just die?

HUNTERF Tue 19-Mar-13 20:34:44

Hi Oldgreymare

I think you must have gone to the college at Barry.
There was another college in Cardiff which did things like Motor vehicle, building etc.
I never had anything to do with that college.
Somebody told me the building they were in is now a housing estate.
Some of the students in my year went to Barry to teacher train.

Phew Frank!!! I was a mere trainee teacher (Cardiff College of Education) altho' our teaching qualifications were awarded by the University of Wales!
Glad you weren't Duncan, a lovely young man, sadly teased by his fellow students (Mostly P.E. and Rugger B*****s)who later became Olympic/ Commonwealth athletes/ played Rugby for their country/became dedicated teachers/ headteachers.
P.S. a teacher's starting salary was then £365 p.a.
P.P.S. I'm off out with my women friends where we will, no doubt, have lively discussions (varied subjects!)

I was referring to an old thread when we had Donald/Duncan cat/dog.

HUNTERF Tue 19-Mar-13 16:57:38

Galen

Yes I got a 2:1 in Business Studies.
Duncan got a First.

Galen

Wasn't Duncan the cat/dog who got his bottom singed at Glastonbury tor? Or was it Donald?

I don't think that is showing much respect to the Duncan I went to University with.
I was told he turned out to be a brilliant teacher and later a headmaster.
Sadly he was in his 40's when he passed away.

Frank

Galen Tue 19-Mar-13 12:48:07

Presumably he got certified in the institution?

glammanana Tue 19-Mar-13 12:31:59

Institution grin

HUNTERF Tue 19-Mar-13 12:24:35

Hi shysal

If my memory serves me correct I think there was a Cardiff College at the time I went to Cardiff University.
I just wanted to clarify we got the right institution.
I have been to college to do some short banking courses in London but I have never done a college course as a full time student.

Do you not consider college and university to mean the same thing Frank? There seems to be some snobbery in your comment.
And no, I don't think I shall lie awake at night worrying about your new grandchild. wink

HUNTERF Tue 19-Mar-13 11:33:43

Hi Galen

Don't worry about the new grandchild.
I will gradually build up some money for him / her.

Hi Oldgreymare

I went to university and never went to college.
No my real name is not Duncan.
There was a Duncan in my year but sadly he passed away a few years ago.

Frank

Oldgreymare Tue 19-Mar-13 10:45:43

Just caught up.
Picked myself up off the floor, still weak with laughter, what a tonic!
Then I realised I could have been at college with Frank (see reference to Cardiff!)...... is your real name Duncan, Frank?

Galen Tue 19-Mar-13 10:15:12

I was being sarcastic
