Legal, pensions and money

Income tax for pensioners should not exceed £4,000 per year.

As people who are receiving higher occupational pensions have often paid a lot of income tax during their working lives should they put a limit of £4,000 a year on the amount of income tax to be paid by any one pensioner per year.

Hear! Hear!

Exactly Eloethan well said. smile

Frank Why are you so obsessed with how much income tax you pay? Most people pay tax.

Presumably you have a reasonably comfortable life but you seem to have little compassion for those who are having a very hard time. People on really low incomes - even if they pay little or no income tax - are never exempt from tax because they still have to pay 20% on everything they buy - even essentials - and so a much greater proportion of their money goes on tax.

Don't ask....hmm

Orca Wed 13-Mar-13 18:34:25

OFGS ..what next?

granjura Wed 13-Mar-13 17:39:53

My point entirely Frank. And there are very many who are a lot more, and an awful lot more, than millionaires - should they have their tax capped at 4000?

I do spend money on my daughters and granddaughters.
There is no point leaving more than you have to for the government to tale inheritance tax on.

I receive private pension and state pension and have money invested to produce an income - so yes I pay tax on it, I don't like it but can see the reasoning behind it. I do think the personal allowance could be higher but don't think that will happen for a long time.

Granjura

There are a lot of millionaires about who are pensioners these days.
You only have to be 60, own a house outright say £400,000, have an occupational pension of £25,000 value £500,000+ as the average life span is expected to be 80+ and say £400,000 in savings and you are more than a millionaire.

Perhaps you should give your last remark some thought Frank.

granjura Wed 13-Mar-13 09:14:16

Rubbish indeed. Why should pensioners who are millionaires and more have their tax capped at 4000??

HUNTERF Wed 13-Mar-13 08:59:58

Eloethan

People on higher incomes pay more VAT as they tend to buy more.
I suppose they do not have to spend their money but there is no point being the richest person in the graveyard.

Hi shysal

That would be fine if we do not have to pay any tax after retirement and we get our National Insurance contributions with interest.

shysal Wed 13-Mar-13 08:45:45

Frank, I believe people who have a large work pension shouldn't receive the state pension, leaving more for those of us who worked b----y hard for lower salaries. wink

HUNTERF Wed 13-Mar-13 08:30:15

Hi Greatnan

Rubbish in whose opinion?.
Just because you disagree with what somebody says it does not mean they are talking rubbish.

Frank

bookdreamer Wed 13-Mar-13 07:10:42

I agree greatnan.

FlicketyB Wed 13-Mar-13 07:04:30

Why not accept Franks suggestion of lower tax for us oldies but balance it against restricted access to the NHS, ban us from using roads, libraries, public transport, rubbish collection and all those other services that our taxes finance, oh yes, stop our grandchildren going to school, some of our taxes support education as well.

absent Wed 13-Mar-13 07:03:29

Can you imagine this going on until we are all 150 years old? Another very good reason to die at the right time.

Greatnan Wed 13-Mar-13 05:01:01

Why do so many of you keep falling for this rubbish - don't feed 'em, is the rule.

Eloethan Wed 13-Mar-13 01:39:42

As we've seen recently, people on high earnings have the money to pay experts to devise all sorts of schemes that enable them to pay less than people on much lower incomes. Where's the fairness in that?

Also, everybody is subject to 20% VAT, whatever their income, which disproportionately affects poorer people.

Ana Tue 12-Mar-13 23:22:20

Basket tax! Now there's an idea...hmm

Ana Tue 12-Mar-13 23:21:19

Whatever, Frank - at least you're paying more than your fair share towards it! That must make you very happy smile

HUNTERF Tue 12-Mar-13 23:19:51

Well. I am taking Andie for his final walk and we are then going to bed.
Andie likes to sleep in his basket in the corner of my bedroom or probably I should say our bedroom.
He does not want a bedroom of his own even though he could have one.
He has another basket downstairs which he sometimes uses in the day.

Galen, for the sake of your blood pressure, may I suggest a boycott of a certain person's posts which nobody takes seriously anyway?
Sleep tight. moon

Want cake and eat it. Dog in the manger and several others.
Going to bed before I lose my temper over such self centred, self serving, dogmatic, egotism!
And that's being polite!angryangryangry
