PayPal again

In November PayPay took over £118 from Mr Aka's bank account. On checking his statement he noticed this and after being passed from pillar to post, being asked repeatedly for his PayPal details (he doesn't have an account with them) it was agreed he had no dealings with PayPal and this was a fraudulent transaction. He was sent an email saying the money would be refunded to his bank account within 30 days.

Of course it wasn't.

So today he went through the whole process again. being passed from pillar to post, being asked repeatedly for his PayPal details (he still doesn't have an account with them) it was agreed he had no dealings with PayPal and this was a still fraudulent transacts. He was sent another email saying the money would be refunded to his bank account within 30 days

How on earth do you get through to these organisations? What's the betting nothing happens and why does it take so long to effect an electronic transfer?

Have you emailed [email protected] Aka? Ask them for help, just to check if there's been funny business going on?

Anne58 Mon 27-Jan-14 13:48:52

Post something on their Facebook page!

Aka Mon 27-Jan-14 13:51:48

Will give Paypal a couple of days for the transfer, then try both these suggestions. Thanks.

Contact the bank. They should be able to sort it.

Aka Mon 27-Jan-14 14:02:14

Phoenix I decided to post a query about this in their Facebook page.. and it was removed after about 2 minutes???

Yes Bags have told him that should the next thing he does.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 27-Jan-14 14:10:12

shock Son advised me not to use PayPal. I shrugged it off. Perhaps I'd better listen!

Anne58 Mon 27-Jan-14 14:17:31

Aka shock Have they responded at all? I put a criticism of Orange on their Facebook page and got an email from them pretty soon after.

Elegran Mon 27-Jan-14 14:45:14

Are you sure that you didn't end up putting a comment onto the fake Paypal site that did the dirty deed in the first place? The scammers are so b****y clever, they can get you in all directions.

My first move would be to get onto the spoof@paypal. It does not reflect well on them to have money removed in their name, so they will look into it.

Aka Mon 27-Jan-14 14:57:58

I've just dispatched Mr Aka to his bank. Hope he remembers why he's going there!

Elegran money was taken by PayPal, not just in their name, and they agree it should not have been. They have allegedly looked into it and we have an email dated December 4th promising a refund within 30 days.

I'll check Pheonix and see if anything has arrived.

Aka Mon 27-Jan-14 15:08:27

Yes, there's a response telling me to send them the details and my email address. I'll have to do it later as GD2 is awake now. Thanks for ideas, seem to be getting somewhere at last with several approaches.

Aka Mon 27-Jan-14 15:31:23

A result! Mr Aka's come back from bank, they've involved their fraud department, very helpful. Bank will refund money by close of play tonight and then they will take on PayPal themselves to recover their money. Said should have come straight to them in first place as Bags suggested.

Paypal could not have refunded anyway as the card the fraud was committed on has been discontinued as soon as he discovered the fraud, so PayPal were again in the wrong.

Bank 1 PayPal 0

We live and learn.

Finally ... Money back in account already. Well done to NatWesf.

MrsSB Tue 28-Jan-14 10:20:03

Thats good news. We've had a couple of incidents of fraudulent use of our cards, and found the banks in general deal with it brilliantly.

Anne58 Tue 28-Jan-14 10:31:46

So glad you got it sorted.

Aka Tue 28-Jan-14 11:04:13

It's been ongoing for two months now, but Mr Aka only told me about it yesterday as he likes to try and sort things himself!
Great advice folks and a resolution in a few hours. GN is a very useful forum.

I wanted to join a local group for widows but membership fees can only be paid via PayPal and I have heard so many problems with them that I refuse to use them, so can't join the group sad

henetha Tue 28-Jan-14 11:38:43

Perhaps another member of the group would pay it for you, sunseeker ?
And then you can just give her the cash?
I seems like an unreasonable rule to me, not everyone likes paypal as witnessed above. I'm going to whisper the next bit as I'm afraid to say it out loud for fear of jinxing it, - but I've been on paypal for years with absolutely no problems.... oh dear, now I've said it..... confused

sunseeker Tue 28-Jan-14 14:58:47

Unfortunately I don't know any of the members yet so can't use your suggestion henetha, I did ask if I could pay by direct debit or cheque but this was refused - PayPal only.

Aka Tue 28-Jan-14 15:50:38

I'm not sure it's legal to refuse payment like that sunseeker

Galen Tue 28-Jan-14 16:12:33

sundeeker is this an organisation local to us?

sunseeker Tue 28-Jan-14 16:39:31

Galen have sent you a PM

Galen Tue 28-Jan-14 17:19:38

Got it!
