So sick of the rat race, getting older and want to be my own boss and work from home.

Does anyone have any suggestions about work that I can do from home

Thank you

Just got my initials confused: Vetting and Barring Scheme and Disclosure and Barring Service!

Dragonfly1 Mon 30-Jun-14 22:00:47

Never heard of the vetting and barring scheme!

I read every post and all helpful, thank you. I want to start off small and fit it around current job.

The work from home stuffing envelopes sounds good to help finance things but when ever I apply for such things its always some kind of a con, so if anyone knows of any reputable companies that have envelope filling jobs please let me know.

Thank you

paula8 you get paid about 1p an envelope! In the light of your forthcoming divorce how on earth could you live on that? What sort of business did you have in mind?

Paula8 Mon 30-Jun-14 22:12:36

thank you but I am a little confused by that website what exactly is it thank you

Dragonfly1 Mon 30-Jun-14 22:12:40

Is it the update to the CRB checks which are required if you want to work with children and vulnerable young adults? Eg if you teach music

Dragonfly1 Mon 30-Jun-14 22:42:01

I think if you read back a few posts Paula, you'll see Pen posted it I'm answer to my post asking what the Vetting and Barring Service is.

*in, for goodness' sake! My fingers are all over the keyboard like mice tonight!

^ I want to start off small and fit it around current job.^

What is your current job?

janerowena Mon 30-Jun-14 23:10:39

What are you good at doing?

Soutra Mon 30-Jun-14 23:20:13

How are you at creative writing? Maybe a blog or even a book?

GillT57 Tue 01-Jul-14 13:12:06

please, no more life or business coaches......I get an awful lot of cold calls from them ......

If you like writing and can string words together in an interesting fashion, using good grammar and the right punctuation, web content writing can be a good way of earning a bit of extra dosh. There are several sites on the internet which can be found with a quick 'Google', some pay better than others but none of them will make you a fortune. Unless you turn in several dozens articles a day ( and some people do!) you can't really give up the day job, but if ,like me, you have only a small pension the extra income will pay for a few 'treats'..... in my case plane tickets to see my DD and GSi in the Uk.

And while we're on acronyms... you don't have to worry about a VPL or obtaining a CRB,DBS,VDB... or even belong to the WI, the MU or the C of E.wink

absentgrandma that sounds like something I might have a go at! If you could give a bit more of a steer, I would very much appreciate it.

Paula8 you still haven't told us what you are currently doing that you are so sick of! For heavens sake woman, meet us halfway!

shysal Tue 01-Jul-14 17:06:41

Right up your street Phoenix, IMO.

absentgrandma Tue 01-Jul-14 17:37:15

Don't know if I'm allowed to post links but here are 2 sites for starters, both of which I write/have written for (oops.... bad grammar - should have said for which I write etc blush )

www.constant-content.com &
www.purecontent.com

If anyone would like to know more you can pm me. I have nothing to gain from this, just passing on a bit of info. Both sites have their pros and cons, but then nothing in life is perfect.

Anne58 Tue 01-Jul-14 17:39:24

Thank you, much appreciated!

BeeWitch Tue 01-Jul-14 18:04:57

What about proofreading? There's plenty of information on the internet. If you are good at grammar, punctuation etc it may be something you may like to investigate?

Dragonfly1 Tue 01-Jul-14 18:54:09

It would also help us to help you if you told us what your skill set and interests are .... Feels a bit like trying to catch mice in the dark at the mo, Paula!

rosequartz Tue 01-Jul-14 21:57:41

Dragonfly, another good suggestion! Mouse catcher!

Elegran Tue 01-Jul-14 22:04:57

Now it is getting silly. I am sure Paula8 can find better things to do than catch mice. It wouldn't pay very well, anyway.
