whitewave

Better to have removed the "offending" posts than the whole lot. Not a good move on your part, and really feels like a bit of a wimpy panic.

What you should have done was explain the situation to us removed what you thought of as the offending posts, and let us decide whether what was left made any sense we are not children and I for one resent being treated as such.

Hi Whitewave - we certainly weren't trying to treat anyone as children at all. It was late on a Sunday night and we had been advised to exercise caution in the same way as various other media.

Thing is (and it's the same on MN), we never pull a thread for the sake of it but when the OP is removed along with various other posts the thread would have been so full of holes it would have rendered the whole thing pointless.

Meanwhile we (along with MN) have been able to clarify the situation further and the long and the short of it is post away (but please be mindful of anything that may have legal implications or contravenes our guidelines in any other way.)

Are the legal proceedings super-injunctions? Not a whiff of criminal proceedings in the UK and Andrew is only 'mentioned' in US civil proceedings. The issue is being discussed freely on TV and radio today, and I guess those papers who have exaggerated or told fibs over the weekend will be in the firing line. No change there, then!

No shut down. Simply that as there's legal proceedings going on we've been advised to remove any posts which imply guilt towards any party.

The thread we took down simply wouldn't have made sense if we had started removing posts, so the best thing in that particular instance was to remove it. As was stated on that thread, necessary caution is being observed by all media so if you do wish to discuss this story best to bear this in mind and avoid posting comments which imply guilt until things have come to a conclusion.
