Stupidly shoplifted and got caught

Like the subject says I was caught shoplifting this morning and I am now so ashamed, no excuse as I shouldnt have done it under any circumstances.

Worried now I could end up losing my job if my employers find out.

Wondered if anyone has words of advice or even knows someone who has been in this situation?

star no we don’t know for certain so I don’t understand why posters feel the need to post if they don’t believe it. Why not just ignore/report or if you are a very kind soul, offer advice.

Cheryl if you are struggling make sure your getting any benefits you may be entitled to Turn2Us do a useful benefit checker, or go to Citizens Advice, are you in debt? They should be able to help you sort that out too. As for the criminal charge if on a low income you will qualify for legal aid see a solicitor who does criminal law ASAP! Your employer may dismiss you as you work in a care home with vulnerable adults it could come under gross misconduct. Take advice from ACAS straightaway if this happens. Good luck

starbird I don't call stealing a pair of £250.00 boots a minor offence at all and to go browsing after a 12 hr. shift working does not make sense to me I would want to be at home in my warm bed asap.

I guess I am very naive - plus I never assume the worst of someone in case I am wrong and doing them an injustice.

Do we now know for certain that this post was not genuine and if so how?

gillybob Sat 20-Jan-18 11:23:12

Oh dear starbird I thought I was slow on the uptake grin

The OP admitted the previous offence on this post further back. She was not caught. I imagine she will have to attend a magistrates cout and will be fined. It is normal for local papers to report , as a list, the cases once a week or so.

It is a hard lesson for a relatively minor offence but shops have and need a policy of always prosecuting offenders otherwise shoplifting would become even more prevalent than it is now. It is also a hot issue at the moment as the police were said to have a policy of not pursuing thefts under £200 which caused an outcry amongst shopkeepers.

What I actually meant in my previous post, was is this the first thing this person has ever posted on GN?

Niobe Sat 20-Jan-18 10:42:21

I did not comment earlier because I did not want to appear judgemental of the OP. I thought she seemed miffed at being caught rather than ashamed about what she had done.

I didn't reply because I didn't believe it. There was no distress and the holes in my shoes ? No way

NanaandGrampy Sat 20-Jan-18 09:53:31

oh no the other shoe has dropped ;-)

Bathsheba Sat 20-Jan-18 09:36:47

My thoughts exactly annsixty. I would be far too ashamed to admit publicly what I'd done, even under the cloak of a username hmm

annsixty Sat 20-Jan-18 09:28:58

I disliked the thread on first reading.
Even if true, I wouldn't be telling the world, I would be holed up licking my wounds. Did she expect a whipround for her?

Eglantine21 Sat 20-Jan-18 09:25:35

Wow that's impressive. Is there a place that will teach me to do all these cool things?

Grannyknot Sat 20-Jan-18 09:17:20

Oh! It did. It just takes time grin

Grannyknot Sat 20-Jan-18 09:16:50

Doh! The giphy thingy didn't work. Off to Google trollhunting.

Grannyknot Sat 20-Jan-18 09:14:28

I don't know what trollhunting is, but this is me when I saw this thread ...

Oh well, there wasn't anything much on television last night any way......

MawBroon Sat 20-Jan-18 08:17:34

Expect this to disappear soon hmm

Nelliemoser Fri 19-Jan-18 23:58:02

Phoenix I agree with your suspicions here.

The way this thread is going is showing a pattern I have seen many times before on here and I am now getting suspicious about the issues raised.

gillybob Fri 19-Jan-18 23:39:42

OMG I’m an idiot !

MawBroon Fri 19-Jan-18 23:39:36

Is there no end to the ingenuity? hmm

gillybob Fri 19-Jan-18 23:39:05

OP Are you menopausal?

Jalima1108 Fri 19-Jan-18 23:30:33

Yes, well done, I think that's the one Maw but it didn't come up on a search.

Perhaps it was another poster?
