Amazon stopping visa credit card payments

Not a scam it’s because they have now brought out there own credit card. It’s Amazon after all they are not stupid.

Well, I'm thinking of changing my bank account, this will help me choose which bank I go to!

It is to do with Brexit because under EU regulations the amount credit card companies could charge in the EU is capped. Now we are not in the EU credit card companies can spend as much as they want and the cap no longer applies in the UK. Martin Lewis's article explains the complexity. But it's definitely a result of Brexit

Nothing to do with fees, Amazon would be on the very lowest rate.
This is about chargebacks where dissatisfied customers complain the the credit card company to get a refund. Secondly to make customers use their own Amazon Pay system, no doubt with credit facilities that are controlled by them.

I never ever use Amazon they treat employees badly and don’t pay proper taxes.

Funny that Anazon have a Mastercard credit card available. Just trying to get more people to use it so more money for Amazon?

It has been in the news Amazon said they would up is refuse to accept visa from the end of January. But I think that it is an attempt by Amazon to make visa reduce their charges which have increased since we left the EU. I think it will be resolved by the time it is due to come into effect.

It’s not a scam. It is Amazon using this to negotiate lower prices for accepting visa. It won’t be long before they only accept their own credit card,. Amazon just have too much power in the retail world now.

I usually use a mastercard credit card but until the ban comes into force I'll be swapping to my visa one. Amazon make obscene amounts of profit, don't pay enough tax and have some seriously bad environmental practices, such as dumping perfectly good unsold items. I don't give them much business anyway, but some things are just too difficult to get elsewhere!

Perhaps they think that gives time for things to be returned after Xmas and cost credited back to Visa card Fanny? Or plenty of time for the backlash to cause Visa to cave in?

Can someone explain, sorry if I’m being thick, but it’s my birthday and I don’t want it to be mixed up in a millennium bug type scenario

I used repeat used Pay Pal until on one occasion it showed an unconfirmed large purchase.
Fortunately my bank dealt with it.

I use Mastercard to pay Amazon and then I go to my on line bank and pay the money straight across to my credit card company. I used to pay by debit card but a few years back my account was hacked. The bank did not want to know nor did Amazon until I rang them up and complained about all the years I had been shopping with them and it was not a large amount. They repaid me.

I heard this on the radio yesterday. It won't affect me as I don't have a Visa credit card. I do tend to use PayPal for payments if possible.

We have stopped taking credit cards in our business. Customers can either pay via bank transfer or PayPal (American banks are not very good with transfers). I think I save nearly £50 a month in various charges. USA cards are 4% charge

I only have an Amazon credit card; I get a £10 credit to my Amazon account when I have spent a certain amount. Doesn't matter where I use it.
I am buying stuff anyway and a little 'freebie' is welcome.

Yes it’s a Brexit bonus. Visa charging higher fees to EU based companies including Amazon. I’m guessing Amazon are hoping Visa will lower their fees which may well happen.

Because the EU moved to ban excessive profiteering from these charges and limited the charge to 0.3% of the transaction cost - however now that the UK is not a member Visa wishes to push up the charge 500%
