Amazon stopping visa credit card payments

Is it really from Amazon so many scams trying to link to Amazon

I had one too. Is it a scam do you think ?

I think this may be a scam email if Amazon intended this change it would be all over the media and business press.

I just heard it on Sky news so sounds as though it’s true. I refuse to use my debit card online as the details that gives can lead to your bank account being emptied. I use Amazon quite a lot for convenience and quick delivery, much as I hate their tax avoidance and treatment of employees. I find it hard to believe that they will go through with this. They will surely lose vast amounts of business. Or are they about to launch an Amazon credit card I wonder?

I have just checked, it is not a scam Amazon have decided to no longer accept UK issued visa cards from January 2022.

They will continue to accept U.K. issued Mastercard, American Express and debit cards after this date.(source Reuters)

Interesting our bank has recently changed from Visa to MasterCard

It only takes a few seconds.

They’ve kept it very quiet for their customers then, if it’s happening this coming January.

I've just got one, I thought a scam surely, but then I see posts on here to the contrary. Nevertheless I'm not updating any of my details. I only buy from them as a last resort.

I think it may affect their sales, but they are hardly struggling, Maybe it will be a good thing if people decide not to patronise them quite as much

You'd need to check it out, but I think a credit card gives a bit more protection than a debit card on purchases. If you don't want to run up debt, just do what I've always done, pay it off in full every month, so in effect using it like a debit card. They've never had a penny interest from me

This appears to be true. It is all over the online news sites, so it doesn't look like a scam.

Martin Lewis is suggesting that this could be a ploy from Amazon to re-negotiate their Visa fees down?

You are not being forced to use a credit card You can still use debit cards Visa or others

credit cards do offer greater purchase protection between £100 to 30k. This was a great reminder to cancel prime!

This will hit the many small businesses who sell through Amazon and which I otherwise wouldn’t have found. I’m sure Amazon takes its pound of flesh from them though.

I’ve always used my credit for Amazon for the extra protection I’m not comfortable using my debit card so it’s either get a new credit card or stop buying from them. I wonder if they’ll change tack when they start losing massive amounts of custom.

Amazon are not the only company to do this, or at least threaten it. Another American retail company ( sorry forgotten the name but behinds with a K) did this last year, stopped allowing Visa cards for six months then reinstated it - possibly after renegotiating the fees charged by Visa.

I have a MasterCard credit card so am not affected.

My DH uses his Visa Credit card for all his online payments and Amazon have just offered him £20 if he changes to his Mastercard.

I tend to use Paypal for everything.

Rarely use Amazon, but when we do, we use the Amazon gift cards to pay, never our own bank cards of any kind. They hold too many details already, and it's worth having a couple of pounds of credit left over just to keep our bank card numbers away from Amazon.

How do you buy the Amazon gift cards without using a credit or debit card?

You can buy Amazon gift cards from some supermarkets, so could use cash, but most people happily use credit and debit cards there.
