Anyone else here with Bulb? They're going into administration, and I'm not sure what that means in relation to my energy contract with them.

Because they're going into administration any credit you have on your account is safe, and you won't have any interruption to your supply. Do nothing just yet. I'm not with them but this is the standard advice.

Bulb has 1.7 million customers.

Blimey. This is too much for me to get my elderly brain around.

From the Business Section in the Telegraph just now:

“Bulb has raised more than £60m from investors including DST Global, the high profile fund run by Russian-Israeli billionaire Yuri Milner, and Jam Jar Investments, the venture capital house of the entrepreneurs behind Innocent smoothies.

Even the venerable Financial Times was taken in, naming it top of a list of Europe’s 1,000 fastest-growing companies as recently as March.

But its cheerleaders missed one vital flaw: the Bulb model was built on the company having to reach a certain scale before wholesale energy prices turned against them, crushing its slim margins.

Creating a shiny app and a more modern IT system doesn’t enable any company, however brilliant its idea or well-meaning its intentions, to defy the basic laws of economics. It’s a painful lesson that a generation of tech hopefuls may be taught in the coming months as the economic cycle turns.”

GagaJo - don't panic. Basically, for the moment, do nothing. Bulb is going into 'special administration', so will continue to operate for the time being, but if they do cease to operate, you will be transferred to another energy provider. Any credit you have with Bulb will be transferred to the new provider too. The worst thing you can do right now is to switch. I'm with Bulb too.

We too are with Bulb. Sad they have gone into administrative as we were very happy with them. Very easy to contact, easy to change payments. Will just sit tight and wait until we here more.

Ditto. They've been excellent to deal with and I'll be sorry to have to leave them. Just hope I'm not transferred to British Gas.

So were we. We used to get a bill every month, so knowing what we’d spent etc.

Zilch since we have been with shell. The credit keeps racking up but nothing about what we’ve spent.

It’s all online and easy to access. I wasn’t thrilled when First Utility became part of Shell a couple of years ago, but we’ve had no problems at all, are lucky enough to have a very good fixed deal, and their website is excellent.

These so-called 'suppliers' may have been frothy but they did have the effect of keeping prices down. Once they're gone the big six will resume ripping everyone off.
