Utility reading deadline

I heard on the radio that utility readings should be done by 30.03.22. to ensure that all fuel used is charged at the lower rate. Readings submitted from 01.04.22. onwards, will be charged at the higher rate.

I've done mine (will do them again on the 30th) and was very lucky that my economising has meant that I haven't used more than my estimated amount. Phew!

I was trying to do this yesterday as my 'smart' gas meter doesn't send in meter readings (it has never worked) and I usually send them by hand. However, it wouldn't even show the numbers and apparently the battery has gone! So I can't even photograph them. They are sending someone out next week. hmm

Get some smelling salts ready Wwm2 ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 31-Mar-22 14:59:03

My smart meter sends them daily readings. So I can see the accumulated total any time I care to look.

Probably have hysterics after tomorrow.

I've just been on Ovo. Working fine.

Everybody trying to do the same thing on the same day has brought the sites down. Imagine that, Martin Lewis... hmm

Chardy Thu 31-Mar-22 14:56:13

All the websites seem to be down. Octopus and British Gas have said they'll accept them a day or 2 later.
I've direct messaged mine on Twitter with name, email address, account number. (I have photos of the meters too)

Talking about this on the radio this morning. Apparently usually there are about two thousand readings sent in a day, so far at lunch time it was around forty thousand! They also said it was fine to take a photograph of both meter readings as this would be date stamped.

TillyTrotter Thu 31-Mar-22 13:19:29

I am talking about one of those free, small, smart plug-in British Gas gadgets, is that the same as you have commented about Pamela ?

TillyTrotter Thu 31-Mar-22 13:17:32

We are, as we don’t know if they have the capability for us to go into it’s settings and show a reading in the past (as we may want to do if we think our bill is wrongly calculated).

PamelaJ1 Thu 31-Mar-22 12:57:07

We don’t have to do this if we have a smart meter do we?

Casdon Thu 31-Mar-22 11:19:12

British Gas online site is down as well at the moment, obviously everybody is trying to submit their readings at the same time.

Maggymay

Can’t get into eon website been trying for ages.

I can’t log in to EON either, if I take a photo of my meters , is this just for my records or can I send them , but if I can’t login , I can’t send them ,
Their site must be inundated I think. I will keep trying through the day ,

Su22 Thu 31-Mar-22 11:11:22

Did my reading first thing and took a photo saved it etc managed to log in at 7.30 am to SSE with no problem and sent my meter reading, took a photo of the computer screen showing the amount I am in credit etc. Daughters just tried to send hers and surprise surprise won't let her log in hmm

Jody1234 Thu 31-Mar-22 10:30:06

Just had a text from British Gas to send readings via text

rafichagran Thu 31-Mar-22 10:24:15

I have emailed it, had confirmation and have photoshot it.

TillyTrotter Thu 31-Mar-22 10:19:07

E mail the readings to yourself then we will have it dated for when we can get through to them.

Sparklefizz Thu 31-Mar-22 10:08:50

Me neither, Maggymay

Yes, I am remembering to do this and I have told the family about it.

BigBertha1 Thu 31-Mar-22 09:40:48

DH is on the case- he has told me at least 7 times.

Jody1234 Thu 31-Mar-22 09:38:18

Sadly I cannot get into my supplier to give my reading, the site is down!

tanith Thu 31-Mar-22 09:26:20

Octopus website is really having problems today I had to reset my password and although I’ve eventually managed to submit my readings it’s not letting me check to make sure it’s done. I’ve taken pictures anyway. I guess they are super busy and the website can’t cope.

TillyTrotter Thu 31-Mar-22 08:11:49

The advice is to submit photographic readings if possible to your Energy provider (and keep evidence yourself),
but for some people like my DD who is waiting to be told who is taking on her contract after previous supplier was one that crashed, that is not possible.

Esspee Mon 28-Mar-22 00:18:17

My calendar is already marked up for the 31st and I have my fingers crossed the actual bill will be nothing like our new direct debit.

Newmom101 Sun 27-Mar-22 22:13:34

It’s the 31st of March, there’s 31 days this month. Otherwise you’ll be charged for the usage of the 31st at the higher rate, which isn’t much but is probably noticeable at these prices.

Also take a photo of your meters when you do, if for some reason a glitch loses your readings then you have photos from that day as proof.

Thanks for that Gagajo ….
