As interest rates are so dire and I still have a fair bit of time on my hands until my work picks up post Covid?I have started to learn about Crypto and invest some small amounts.

It’s really interesting, I bought a coin recently at an all time low and the price doubled within 72 hours!

Are any of you investing?

Have you any tips?

No, I don’t understand how it works so I will stay with what I know.

I showed interest in one that had Martin Lewis’s picture with it. Now I have calls every day, sometimes several. I answered them at first but the guy was really pushy and rude, then told me I was rude!
It’s a nightmare. They are using different numbers every day. At least 20 since 10 January
Reported to my phone company who say they have no record of them so can’t help.
Has anyone else experiences this and how did they get rid of them?

Yes I bought a BTL from my landlord who wanted a quick sale to go abroad and join her daughter in Dubai. Bargained hard and got the house for 80% of its value. It did need a few things doing to it though - like new kitchen, boiler and a rather scruffy garden. Its a small detached - two beds and a boxroom type and set on a corner. A funny back to front house with the "front" door up an alley with no vehicle access.

Welshwife, I have not found that to be the case. Can you nominate your best finds please?

biglouis did you by any chance buy a house?!

Charleygirl5 Tue 27-Dec-22 17:13:44

I do not understand how it works so I will not be touching it with a barge pole.

I invested in crypto many years ago and made enough to buy a house. I still have a small amount in crypto but would not re-invest any significant sum at present.

Building societies give a much better interest rate than the banks.

There appears to be a facility on PayPal to buy digital currency. Has anyone tried it?

biglouis Sun 12-Jun-22 16:57:49

I invested in it many years ago - unfortunately not in the very beginning. However I made enough to buy a house with a very small mortgage and am not mortgage free. I still have a hardware wallet with some bitcoins in it for a "rainy day".

The real question is has anyone been able to realise their numerical gain?

There are several different crypto currencies of which Bitcoin is the best known.

Any kind of currency trading is high risk unless you are a professional, movements are unpredictable an amateur will never react quickly enough to make money and often loose a lot.

I invested modestly in crypto long ago and used the proceeds to buy my current house. I am not a gambler by nature (lived in Las Vegas for a year and only visited a casino once where I lost $13)

I still have some crypto coins stored in a harware wallet but have not really dabbled since.

It will be all governments that will defeat it.

Crypto is a generic word for this type of currency.

I only trust Premium Bonds and have put most of our meagre savings into them. www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-10863341/Should-throw-savings-NS-Premium-Bonds.html “National Savings & Investments is finally increasing the number of Premium Bond prizes it pays out every month, boosting its 21million savers' chances of winning.”
"From next month (June 2022),NS&I will pay out an additional 1.4million prizes, cutting the monthly odds against winning for every £1 in Premium Bonds from 34,500 to one to 24,500 to one."
"All NS&I deposits are backed by the Treasury, which means that, as long as the Government is solvent, your savings are safe."

yes on the advice of a smart son and he does all the 'work' for us, doubled our initial investment , I trust his judgement and we only put in what we could afford to lose.

WoodLane7 Sun 29-May-22 17:04:15

No, and never will

Aepgirl Sun 29-May-22 11:34:07

Certainly not.

ShropshireMiss Sun 29-May-22 11:31:48

If an index linked tracker fund was available then I would put a small amount in as a high risk punt.

BeEmerald Sun 29-May-22 11:28:19

I have friends whose children have bought bitcoins and similar. All the people I know who’ve bought it are people who can least afford to lose it. I think it’s a concept based on greed and recklessness like gambling.
