He needn’t worry about opening the letters, they have been sent to his address and he’s opening them for good reason. I hope it stops soon, such a nuisance. Also tell him never to put anything with his name and address on into the recycling - shred it or obliterate it with black felt pen.

Germanshepherdsmum thank you...I'll tell him to check his credit record.
I had suggested phoning the senders up but he was wary of opening mail addressed to another person.

Contact the people who are sending the letters. I had a spate of letters from insurance companies addressed to Asian people at the house I had lived in for over 20 years. Insurance fraud using an address in a very low crime, therefore cheaper premiums, area. I phoned each insurer and eventually it ended. But it’s important to speak to the people concerned, not just return letters to sender which will simply make matters escalate until the bailiffs arrive.
And tell him to check his credit record as debts may have been entered against his address.

My son moved into his new home a couple of years ago - no problems at all.

For about six / nine months afterwards, he was receiving a lot of mail addressed to the previous tenant (before he bought the house, it was a rental). When he moved in there was a huge amount of post already there.
He would duly pop 'return to sender' on envelopes and post them back.
He then had a couple of visits from debt collectors which were resolved although as he said, it's quite unpleasant dealing with this and having to show proof of I.D etc.

His concern is now the letters have started again and he's worried about more people / bailiffs etc arriving. Especially as the last few appear to be from a court.

He's on the electoral register etc but finding it frustrating especially as he's not in the best of health, having had a number of surgeries too recently.

Does anyone have any ideas how to deal with this issue?
