We were talking about this the other day, and my friend knew almost to the penny, and another friend had absolutely no idea. I only knew because I had just been to the cash machine, but I usually know roughly, but can sometimes get a pleasant surprise ( or a shock!)

Yes, as I use cash regularly.

Galaxy Thu 18-May-23 11:56:02

Yes no cash.

I know how much I have in notes. I know how many £1/£ 2 coins or putting into collections, and how many 50p and 20p coins I have available for parking for when the card reader doesn’t work. I have no idea about any smaller coins, in there.

Yes, always £5 in coins - our council car parks are cash only! They do number plate recognition but not cashless payment as do some hospitals. And supermarkets require pound coins.

I always have £40 in notes too.

But they rarely get spent.

Germany here. Cash is the main currency. I take €300 out of the ATM and when it gets down to below €50 I have to top it up again. At present I reckon I have about €200 in there, but I wouldn't be able to say how much small change there is.

I prefer to use cash know exactly how much I have and tally up at the end of the day. (I keep a incoming/outgoing book 😊

I’m identical to kitty except that I also have other coins depending on the cost of the car park.

But it occurred to me the other day that purses holding cash are going to be a thing of the past I think.

None ,I dont carry cash .On the odd time I have change in my purse I empty it into a jar for my GD and when its full she takes it to Asda and gets a voucher to spend

Yes. No cash just a handful of coins. I never use cash now , always my card

I have about £50, some in notes and about £10 in coins. I've just been away so much more than I usually have. I only take cash out if I know the window cleaner is due I normally use my phone wallet to pay contactless for everything else.

TerriBull Thu 18-May-23 12:26:55

Some pound coins for lockers when swimming or gyming, and I very occasionally need a coin or two for a car park, but like most people I tend not to carry cash anymore.

I have no idea how much is in my purse. In fact I have no idea where my purse is. I never use cash for anything.

NanaDana Thu 18-May-23 12:33:17

Very seldom use cash anywhere these days. Usually keep about £50 in notes in there "for emergencies", plus I try to keep around 5 one pound coins, mainly for supermarket trollies. Even pay our window cleaner by monthly standing order now.

Mine has about £3 in small change. My youngest granddaughter uses it for playing shops.

I don’t use cash really, card or phone for everything. I keep a few quid in mixed coins in the car for the rare car park that requires cash.

Katek Thu 18-May-23 12:36:15

Yes, nothing there apart from bank cards and a trolley token!

biglouis Thu 18-May-23 12:44:45

I have not looked in my purse for so long that I found an old paper £20 note in there. I gave it to my nephew as he can pay it into the bank via the local post office. My local post office is a £7 taxi ride away so £14 to pay in £20.

Fleur20 Thu 18-May-23 13:07:21

I pay as much as I can by direct debit.
Have £50 in cash every week as that is my weekly budget for food and incidentals etc... never overdrawn!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 18-May-23 13:11:46

Does nobody have any coins to give homeless people on the streets?

HeavenLeigh Thu 18-May-23 13:14:49

Yes, £40 in notes and 5 pound in change

pascal30 Thu 18-May-23 13:19:51

2x £20 notes, but I normally use cards.. several cafes and restaurants down here don't take cash..

Norah Thu 18-May-23 13:20:51

Yes, I know the contents of my wallet. I take care of all things involving money every Monday. Business, personal - all of it.

We use cards and direct debit mostly - pay cash for some things.

Riverwalk Thu 18-May-23 13:24:33

In my actual purse, absolutely nothing - I stopped using a purse around the time of Lockdown.

I have a debit and credit card on my phone, and in my Freedom Pass holder I have the FP, a couple of store loyalty cards, and a credit card in case the phone malfunctions! My phone and FP holder go everywhere with me.

I rarely use cash but do have two £10 notes, in each of the two small cross body bags which I use when shopping - they've been there for a while as never have need to use them. Also have a handful of £1/£2 coins in case I want to give to a busker or beggar.

GSM I don't hand out in the street, but I donate to OXPAT (Oxford Homeless Charity) People in need can get both help and guidance from them.

Yes!
Only because I forgot my card today, and had to rummage around!

Generally, yes, pretty close.
