Germanshepherdsmum - No change for homeless. I worked in a prison education unit and some things I learnt put me off giving...I buy the Big Issue on the very rare occasion I travel to a large town/city and give to Crisis etc, but never to street people, but I'll buy them coffee or food if wanted.

Always count notes in purse before going to the shops but no idea re coins. Very rarely use cash nowadays except for parking and even then try to use parking app as £1 coins difficult to get hold of, find myself buying newspaper and asking for £1 coins in the change in case needed.

Precisely 4p (X2 2p pieces). Only use cash at the car boot sale which I visit occasionally. The rest of the time it’s my card or ApplePay. Mostly use my purse for reminder notes (sometimes forget to download notes to my phone) and plasters for my grandchildren!

I rarely use cash so usually only a few pounds for occasions where a donation is required. I went out for a meal last week where I had to pay cash and had to leave early to go to an ATM on the way as I'd kept forgetting! I carry trolley tokens in my purse all the time as I hated having to keep my last pound coin all the time. I usually know roughly how much is there but not exactly.

I meant the tokens are given away, not the trolleys.

Nobody uses coins in a trolley here in Germany. They are so often given away as freebies. I have half a dozen in the car, and another one on the passenger side for when DH is driving and I hop our to get a bit of shopping while he gets stuff from the builders' suppliers.

Yes, more or less to the penny. I do like to pay cash for a few bits & bobs so I take £50 out at a time & replace when it's gone. Sometimes it last ages & sometimes I whizz through it. I mostly use a card though.

I don't have a purse anymore, never use cash

An emergency £20 note, some coins and other notes. Would have to look to make sure.
Just about always use a card these days.

I think young people rarely carry cash now. I have a ten pound note and a few coins in my purse but nearly always pay by card now.

One thing I’ve noticed, since so many people no longer carry cash, the beggars who I’m pretty sure were run by gangmasters - all with identical placards, and various other similarities, have more or less disappeared from the town centre.

Vaguely, but not to the last penny, I seldom use cash. I do however follow my grandmother’s advice to always carry a £5 note stored away for emergency use. As she has been dead for over 40 years, I think I should probably be taking inflation into consideration here.

No, never - they're not often homeless - just chancers hoping you'll fund their drug addictions - so I'll buy them a sandwich instead.

Daddima, your question assumes that I have a purse/wallet - but I haven't carried/used one for decades. I use my bank card everywhere. There's a little box of change in the hall - just for tips and the ice cream van, that's all.

Yes. I pretty much know. I check it often. I always carry some cash even though using it less.

For those who never carry any cash what would you do if you’re no where near home and lose your card
I always like a back up plan

I’d have to lose my phone and a few cards, which I guess is possible, although I don’t keep them together for just that reason

It seems less likely than losing my purse, really.

But I guess, if I had none of them, I’d drive home/to friends/family if I had enough petrol/continue on the train unless I’d lost my tickets too (possible, they do live on my phone). If really stuck, I’d ask someone if I could use their phone to get someone to come and collect me. This is, after all, why I had children…

Yes - coins keep in the car for parking, and notes only in my purse when I'm due to pay by cash, otherwise, none.

I feel by going cashless, it won’t be long before we have no choice and fir some people , yes me, paying for everything by apps or phones is awkward and frustrating. Try paying to park. Nightmare!
I have an iPhone but it’s very old and tiny. I don’t want to have to buy another one just to be able to use it for paying for things I already pay for with a card or cash.

It’s convenient to pay by card but the retailer then takes a hit from the card company.

I usually have about £100 in notes in my phone case about £5 in pound coin in a tiny purse. I don’t carry other coins they go in a jar for saving for GC. I never get money out in public I use a trolly token for at the shops and give to charities online.
