What are the conditions to have an account with them?
I imagine you have to be pretty rich. We certainly would have never fitted their client profile.

I don't have a Faberge Egg but I do have a few Co-op ones! Does that count? confused

nanna8 Mon 07-Aug-23 08:00:28

Never heard of them until the gransnet posts

DanniRae many years ago an ex Russian Bolshoi ballet dancer had two Faberge eggs stolen at once. I have always been wary of owning anything too expensive after hearing about that - not that Faberge is now remotely affordable. I have a book with illustrations of original Faberge pieces and they are exceptionally beautiful and awesome to see.

There’s a Faberge museum in Baden Baden….,

I'm not really sure why I thought of Fabergé eggs in conjunction with this thread, but then it came to me today that 10 years or so ago at Christmas, Coutts in The Strand covered the front of their windows with a Fabergé display of rings, necklaces and earrings inside snowflakes if I remember. It was clever and beautiful, but not as detailed as the Christmas window at Liberty on the corner of Regent Street which is always my favourite.

I think there are also some Fabergé items in the V & A Museum. I definitely remember some royal family pieces, but maybe not eggs?

Sorry to mention the C word!

Now is Baden Baden on one of those river cruises? I'd do one just to visit the Fabergé museum.
Maybe I should ask on the cruise thread? Maybe not!

There was a wonderful Fabergé exhibition a few years back. We saw it in Edinburgh but I expect it did the rounds. The vases of flowers were exquisite. They're the ones that stuck in my mind.

If you want to see Faberge go the the Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond Virginia. Just stunning, collected by the boss of General Motors in the 1930s donated by his wife.

A bit hard to do for UK people!

Faberge Museum in St Petersburg has a large collection too ….. best wait awhile before going.

Joseann Wed 09-Aug-23 08:22:22

There's a rather rich Jewish Russian guy in Switzerland I think who has a large Fabergé collection.
Might be easiest to just look him up to ask for a visit!

Is there a Coutts branch in Virginia Katie59? Just in case I need to transfer funds to buy a Fabergé souvenir. 😉

Don't worry, I've just checked with my 24 hour Coutts banking advisor, and she says she'll be on the other end of the line waiting!
Bet no one else gets that sort of personal service from their bank! And she can book my flights and hotel too. 👑 👑 👑

The canny people who have high net worth dont bank with Coutts. They keep it offshore away from the grubby hands of the taxman.

Well there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding offshore accounts. Believe me, HMRC don't miss much, especially these days where they have access to so much global financial data. They are certainly on the front foot when it comes to checking for tax avoidance, and they are as sharp as razors when checking historical exchange rates converting money to pounds sterling. It is very difficult to keep money away from the taxman offshore! (Not that that was my father's intention.)

I bought a looky-likey small Faberge egg from a shop in St Petersburgh - it’s bottle green, studded with cubic zircona and is very pretty.
I wonder now, is it a genuine Faberge? Dream on H 😴

Is this thread too old to join in? If yes, sorry. Just wanted to point out that Baden Baden is not on a river big enough to take a cruise ship. It certainly is worth a visit, though. It has an airport and a racecourse as well as the casino and is in the Black Forest - wonderful scenery and skiing in the winter.

(It is my nearest airport and I use it to fly to the UK - takes me less than an hour to get there, an hour's flight to Stansted and less than an hour to my sister's.)
