Shall we wait to see if this actually happens rather than raising anxiety by bigging up an urban myth?

We don’t know if it will happen, whether there will be any mitigating actions, when the implementation date might be if it does happen, whether it might apply to all age groups or exclude some - etc. etc. some people must be stressed with worry about things that may not happen, and Gransnet is fanning the flames, which is wrong.

If Labour removes the single person Council Tax discount it is not just pensioners who will suffer.

It will also be penalising younger widows/widowers, divorced, and those that are single!

In my opinion Labour are perpetuating and increasing the gap between the have and have nots!

My conscience is clear, I didn’t vote for them

Who will get that amount ?
Who won’t get that amount.

According to the article:-

“ The increase will take the full state pension for men who were born after 1951 and women born after 1953 to around £12,000 next year, after a £900 increase last year.

Pre-2016 retirees, who may have been eligible for a secondary state pension, are likely to see at least a £300 a year increase in the basic state pension to £9,000 in next year under the old system.”

Is this going to happen?

Seems this government are targeting the poorest and most vulnerable in society. If they want to tackle the so called "black hole" they could start by stopping the £300+ PER DAY paid to those who turn up at the unelected House of Lords - if they all turned up that would be equal to approx. £250,000 per day.

I find it hard to accept that while taking the WFA from pensioners MPs are keeping their "energy" allowance for their second homes, also why do both HoC and HoL require subsidised restaurants and bars?

Seems the MPs don't have the "broad shoulders" that Starmer mentioned

Part of the crippling costs this government says it is facing is the unwarranted 10 billion payout to train drivers and junior doctors. Pensioners cannot paralyse the country by industrial action so pose no threat. The pension increase of £400 next year will put many pensioners over their personal allowance thus making many more liable for tax.

Whiff, only just seen your comments about your wobble concerning your holiday. I’m just the same, nervous at first. Make the most of whatever the day brings, in a week it will all be a memory you're making now. There are loads to do where you're going, plus lots of places you can have peace and quiet if you choose, including the lovely Minster, so relax, enjoy and treat yourself. Your husband would be very proud at how well you've made your life
