Has everyone received a letter from Dwp regarding WFP?

This morning l received a letter regarding eligibility for the Winter Fuel Payment. l expect "my Dove" will get his tomorrow. If they send every eligible person a letter, what a waste of money. The Government departments know who is " paperless" because you opt in. What is the point of doing that if they still send you paper communications as well. Mind you l didn't get any communication, paper or digital, regarding the change in my pension age when it mattered. No wonder the country is short of money.

I got the letter last week too, and thought what a waste! I anyone hasn't seen it on the news by now they must be very out of touch! However it did give detsils of how to apply for pension credit so I guess that is the reason for it.

As for bnotifications about pension age I did get a letter many years ago telling me my retirement age would be 64 .5. I didn't get anything telling me that it was going up again, though I became aware due to watching the news and successive budgets. My retirement age ended up being less than a month before my 66th birthday as I'm a WASPIE and was in the group where the age was being gradually increased. I actually worked beyond the date as I didn't want to retire from lockdown and not get a proper goodbye so I stayed on for an extra 6 weeks until the next half term holiday after we stopped working from home. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to add any extra to my state pension so I took that on time even though I was still working.

I received mine a couple of weeks ago. I received the WFP in the past but this letter was addressed to my old name, I remarried 19 yrs ago. Bin. Thought it was a scam.

I have received no communications at all.

Yes - had the (pure waste of money )letter stating no heating allowance
I believe the government is still intent on giving a £10 Xmas bonus - it must cost more to process than the benefit.

I expect it's just programmed into the computerised system so automatic by now.

Think it was a waste of money that could have been put to better use. So much information already about this and adverts re pension credit. Also think the £10 bonus should be abolished, not gone up in years and must cost more to administer than the actual benefit.

Yes I have had a letter.

Susieq62 Tue 22-Oct-24 16:31:05

Got ours, we are not eligible but we knew that anyway. It did raise awareness of available benefits which many may not know about.

Allira Tue 22-Oct-24 15:54:34

We care so much we'd rather the money spent on the staff required to process this and the postage went to those who just miss out because they're £2 pa over the limit.

I am really shocked at the number of uncaring posters on this thread.
The letter contains valuable information which may help thousands of people who can in fact claim the winter fuel payment. Why not give a thought to them? Would you rather they didn’t benefit?
It’s not just about you!
Rant over.

bikergran Tue 22-Oct-24 15:16:39

Not had one as yet

Bea65 Tue 22-Oct-24 15:11:28

Rec’d mine today and echo what other posters have said - complete waste of paper and postal costs😡

Nanaeloc Tue 22-Oct-24 15:03:57

Yes! Two separate letters to me and DH to the same address- I agree, what a waste of paper and postage …

SillyNanny321 Tue 22-Oct-24 14:24:59

Havent got mine yet but expect it any day now when it will be sworn at, ripped up & stuck in the bin!

Wyllow3 Tue 22-Oct-24 13:38:22

But how are the DWP able to know who really needed the information and who did not?

As others have said, it would be deemed by some utterly shocking had people who don't know to remain uninformed about who gets it but might be able to claim PC and do so?

Neilspurgeon0 Tue 22-Oct-24 13:27:48

Yes we each got one in the last week, and remarked that if they had given the money that it cost to pay someone to write and a postman to deliver these and the cost of the paper and envelopes to the most destitute elders who had just lost out on WFP they might not have been quite such an uproar, albeit we don’t actually NEED WFP but as usual waste on every side

Cazza1953 Tue 22-Oct-24 13:06:33

Yes, me and my husband got one each. What a waste of money!

MissAdventure

I get the feeling that it would also been wrong had no letters been sent out.

Yes absolutely they cannot win whoever they are, if they do they are wrong, if they don't they are wrong too, dear me

Wyllow3 Tue 22-Oct-24 12:35:16

Although people on this board know about the details of WFA after a long summer of discussion:

We cant assume that everyone does, nor who they are, to "target" letters.

Far from it. as conversations I have had with a care worker in SSD show.

The letters also did something very valuable in reminding people to claim Pension Credit and how, and which benefits mean that people will get WFA. Very far from wasted letters.

Just received a letter (applied last April) after a few weeks I contacted PC the person answering was very rude told me I would hear from them in due course said goodbye and went off the line.I'm just above pension credit entitlement so not eligible for WFP. Predicament do I freeze or get into debt.....

orly Tue 22-Oct-24 12:20:27

I and my husband have both had a letter saying we won't be getting WFP this year after getting for the first and only time last year. What a waste of money reminding us what we already knew that the grabbing Labour Chancellor is targeting pensioners because she has to pay for all the pay rises she's awarded to their union backers. I'm dreading the Budget!

mum2three Tue 22-Oct-24 06:58:40

Yes, and it was completely unnecessary.

Whiff Tue 22-Oct-24 06:56:45

I had an email from Eon telling me the £150 had been credited to my account the other week . I received the letter telling me I would get it this which I received yesterday. Don't see the point of having a letter when my energy company had already told me they had received it.

Shinamae Mon 21-Oct-24 23:44:20

Got mine the other day.
Saying the benefits you’ve got to be on before you get it
I won’t be getting it, thank goodness I’m still working. albeit part time.

maddyfour Mon 21-Oct-24 23:18:45

Iam64

Exactly MissA.

I’ve resisted moving from paper to online bank statements. My hospital appointments and any appointments with my GP now arrive digitally. I expect letters by mail to become extinct before long.
Currently, we still have letters from public bodies. I can onky imagine the outcry if people had received texts, or no confirmation of any kind on the WFA

We haven’t received any letters about the WFA and we’re not bothered or moaning.
We don’t care, because we already know!
