I think in this country shops make a big deal of offers that really are not that good.

Shopping in France a lot, we have noticed that they have fewer items on offer, but give a much better deal on them, usually an item will be half price, and it is clearly half price because similar goods will be on sale for full price and you can compare them.

You need to compare prices for the same item sold by the same retailer in the last year. There are real bargains out there to be had but do the research before you buy.

I think Which did a survey of Black Friday deals and found out that they actually were not that impressive. the big cuts were more smoke and mirrors than real bargains.

Encouraging people to spend is obviously the main objective, and if Christmas now stretches into months before the day, then so are the incentives to spend, spend, spend.

If I was looking to make s big purchase, I'd wait until black friday month, I suppose.

It's just a big con.

It's a bit like Xmas, which seems to start in October!

I've been able to stock up on dog food at a considerable saving so I'm all for it!

I think retailers feel an obligation to join in. I do wonder if some stores deliberately show higher prices than they should, so that they can then lower them during 'Black Friday' and people think they are getting a bargain when, in fact, they are paying the true price.

Wasn't Black Friday (a US commercial import) only supposed to be ONE Friday, the day after Thanksgiving day? Now the adverts for it appear to be designating everyday in November as Black Friday, and where will it end?

People only have a limited amount of disposable income, even more so as the Cost-of-Living crisis has become a permanent fixture. Naturally.

And isn't Black Friday just a ruse for the retailers to offload the tat they couldn't flog the rest of the year?
