Starling bank………not what they were!

I read the book years ago by the founder of the Starling Bank. Can’t recall her name without looking it up. It was hugely illuminating about the playing field in banking!
I admit I was impressed and tempted to switch but then thought …. I don’t have savings, use up my pension (pretty much) every month so decided to stay put with my bank - that I’ve been with since I started paid work at the age of 18y.

Our High Street bank offers interest on our account, only up to a certain limit.

I have been with Starling for a couple of years. I must admit it was a pleasant surprise when I discovered that they were adding interest to current accounts, as the High St bank I have my main account with adds no interest to current accounts. Shame they are stopping it though.

I was refused by First direct I couldn’t understand why until a kind employee explained it was because I was too ‘good’ they didn’t want people who were solvent and kept their affairs in credit they wanted people to overdraw and get penalties

This is a widespread practice, they can only survive on the extra charges for non payment, banks will take every opportunity to make your situation worse, even worse than lawyers.

Excuse me, what are you insinuating 😂😂
I keep a very tidy account and do have a loan with them, which probably helps not a big loan but a loan nonetheless..
I also have a credit card with them, and I’ve set up a direct debit to pay that off in full every month

We have never had interest added to any of our current accounts. Had I known …..

I always feel wary of these new, start up banks. (I realise they have been around a while).

I worked for one particular bank all my working life. They offer no interest on current accounts, their savings accounts are dismal, apart from a good isa this year.

But I will stick with them, ‘better the devil you know’.

( I have savings elsewhere, I don’t rely on them).

I have been with First direct bank now for about five years, touchwood no problems with them at all,excellent online bank.. 🤓
