Does anyone use this for their credit cards and do you consider
it better than using physical card.

I agree, grandMattie. I pay with cash wherever I can too. It also, when checking my bank statements, looks as though I haven’t spent as much, it’s psychology.

I’m all for phone/card payments, but we still absolutely need cash and cheques for when there is no signal, computers are downforce whatever reason, etc.
I use cash wherever possible as I find it easier to budget, having it in my hot little hands..
Besides what would the tooth fairy do?

I get really frustrated in the checkout q with all these folks who have their shop card and payment on their phones. Why can they not load them up while waiting?.

It takes ages, especially if signal is weak and holds up the whole q while they wait until all shopping is through and into the trolley before getting their phone out, then signing in, then loading their shop card and zapping it (at least 3 goes), then signing in to pay app and zapping that!
me, I get my 2 bits of plastic out while waiting, then zap one as I start to load, and the other as soon as the operator is ready, so I finish loading while the system catches up and coupons print.
So much for progress.

You should try Apple Watch! Just need your wrist, hold it over the machine, double click and you are done.
Here in France there are lots of people who still pay by cheque.
That is frustrating....

I was buying light bulbs in an electrical shop, I asked the young man serving, do you take cash. He said, yes, course, ‘cash is king’. I laughed, I thought these young ones are walking us into a cashless society.

cash is king sure is, because it’s untraceable so doesn’t always go through the books’

I always use Apple Pay and find it very clear and simple.

The only problem I ever have is the facial recognition doesn’t recognise me first thing in the morning (sometimes) shock.

kittylester Sat 04-Oct-25 07:16:52

My wallet shows me what I have spent that day but I also access my online banking on my phone so can easily check.

And, I am definitely not posh.

Allsorts Sat 04-Oct-25 06:27:00

What is posh?
Thanks everyone I now have my credit cards on it. I tested it but it doesn't tell me about the transaction. I will look on utube as I probably have fine something wrong

I often wonder what my grandmother would make of my credit card.
The word Virgin was never to be uttered…unless followed by Mary.
And we’re not Catholic! 😂

Agree about the word 'posh' Sago.

I was quoting crazyH, Sago

I do know how it works.

Sorry Kitty!
I was surprised at the use of that awful word posh to describe a payment method!

Mojack26 Thu 02-Oct-25 22:44:04

I have android Google Pay. Same thing all my cards are in my Google wallet. My daughter has Applepay and all her cards are on it.

I use Apple Pay all the time , so much easier . Yesterday I had to run for the train and paid for parking as I got on the train .

Apple Pay isn't a posher version of a credit card - it is your credit card but accessed through an app.

“Posher”?

Apple Pay is encrypted this makes it more secure.

I can’t remember the last time I did a food shop and paid with cash. Before debit cards I wrote a cheque. Same in clothes shops.
I kept receipts for any cash purchases and totted up the cheque stubs. I suppose that’s what everyone did.

So much easier now.

I wish someone could explain to me why it is only possible to keep an eye on one's spending by using cash and not a credit card.

Because when you are on a budget, it’s easy to get carried away using a credit card.
I think by paying cash, I am more likely to ask myself do I really want or need whatever I am buying.
Anyway, I find it works for me.

I don’t food shop but practically everything I buy is on line.
I have always thought do I really want/ need it

My receipts tell exactly where I spent my cash KL

My phone tells me that.

Mt61 Thu 02-Oct-25 18:06:04

I don’t buy everything with cash. Half & half

Oh I don’t know, terminals were down in Sainsbury’s last year, those with cash could go straight through, those with Cards had to go & queue up outside in the rain at the machine.

I rarely use cash and don’t have any problems ‘running a tight ship’ as my dad used to say.
I don’t need a ledger. Online banking means you can check anything at any time wherever you are.

I don’t use a ledger, but I do keep an eye on my bank statements.

Presumably you can use both debit and credit cards with ApplePay? At the moment I pay for virtually everything with a credit card which lists the date and the payee, I can't really see what makes ApplePay different to this.

Because you use your phone or Apple Watch to pay. You register your bank card in Apple Wallet and then you just double click while holding your phone or wrist over the card machine.
