Hi all, I am from Northampton.

lynne Mon 27-Jun-11 20:18:33

Always thought Gardyne Road was a bit away from the heart of student life!

em Mon 27-Jun-11 18:16:07

lynne - same here! And my mother before me. College of Ed moved out of the city centre for a long time but is now back in the middle of the University campus in a fine new building.

lynne Mon 27-Jun-11 18:03:54

College of Education, Park Place

Well thank you ladies!
I sometimes think Dundee is seen as a bit of a backwater and you have reassured me. Hopefully you all plan to visit when the new V&A opens in a couple of years time. Plans look spectacular, jutting out onto the river.
I'll organise a party!!
Those of you who were students- Dundee Uni or College of Education?

Annobel Mon 27-Jun-11 13:43:45

Lynne - No it was Dundee High School, just for two years until I escaped to Africa.

Oxon70, I took my driving test in Broughty Ferry too!!!! Small world, indeed.

harrigran Mon 27-Jun-11 12:19:21

When I hear Broughty Ferry it brings back memories. In 1956 my father had to go and work in a shipyard and he lived in digs in Broughty Ferry. Why so memorable ? well he left home in January and my sister was born in October. Nothing unusual in having a baby except my mother was 47 and she thought her family was complete grin

lynne Mon 27-Jun-11 12:11:01

Annobel...did you teach at Barnhill Primary or Monifieth high perhaps??

Baggy you must have been fit to cycle that distance ! Uphill on the way there

Oxon70 Mon 27-Jun-11 10:47:35

I lived in Dundee for years, had my first child there in the DRI. I took my driving test in Broughty Ferry ...no traffic lights and no Zebras then!
Been looking lately at Dundee online....changed a bit....and I am collecting old pictures, first saw the town in 1958...

baggythecrust! Mon 27-Jun-11 06:44:01

Yes, it was quite a cycle ride, Annobel, but I was young and fit. What always baffled me was that whether I was cycling down the Tay estuary to the Ferry or up it to Dundee, I always seemed to cycling against the wind!

Annobel Sun 26-Jun-11 23:05:55

Yes. The Ferry is Broughty, though there is also West Ferry where I lived for a few months until I got fed up with my landlady,,, or was it the other way round...
That was quite a cycle ride, Baggy.

baggythecrust! Sun 26-Jun-11 21:01:35

Is this Broughty Ferry you guys are talking about? I lived in Barnhill for a year when I was a student. Used to cycle into Dundee.

Annobel Sun 26-Jun-11 20:43:14

I had a spell living in the Ferry and a year in Barnhill, at the beginning of my teaching career. Small world.

lynne Sun 26-Jun-11 20:41:36

Em..back up regularly our brothers, parents etc are there in the Ferry...only one's who haved moved away.

glassortwo Sun 26-Jun-11 10:30:21

jenny my dad was also in the air force from me being 5 years old, we were in so many places and I attended 13 schools during my basic education, I think thats why I was more than happy to stay put in one place once I had married and settled down, I wanted my children to have a group of friends to grow up with, I was always the new girl and being shy made it very difficult to forge friendships.

jennybumble Sat 25-Jun-11 22:28:15

I now live in Chichester but as a child my father was in the air force so we moved every 2 years. I had 4 primary schools and 3 senior schools,
Lived in Tenterden in Kent, then Chippenham, Downham Market, Lincoln, Chipping Norton, Kings Lynn, and 5 years in Germany in Landsberg, so lots of moves,
I have lived in Chichester for 40 years and love it. I wanted my children to stay in one place for schools etc and it worked really well.

nanapug Fri 24-Jun-11 14:10:15

Oooh twobabes I knew quite a few people at the high school. I am 62 so would we have been there at a similar time? Do send me a private message if we are of a similar age and we can compare notes!!

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 13:15:01

Hi, nanapug! I lived around Bromley from 12 to 21 and until two years ago was there a great deal of my time with my elderly parents. It still seems strange not to be going there.
Went to Bromley High then Stockwell College (teacher training) - with the wisdom that being 18 brings I opted not to go away to train because I'd be parted from my boyfriend. His firm then sent him to work on the other side of the world for several years - before I'd even started the course! No, of course it didn't last! (The boyfriend thing, I mean, not the course.)

nanapug Fri 24-Jun-11 11:22:12

At last, twobabes someone from Kent. I lived in Bromley when I was a child, and then when we first married. Unfortunately I think it is actually classed as South London now though!!! Did you go to school in Bromley? I went to Bromley Technical High School in Chislehurst.

grannyactivist, you beat me by one!!
