How many years have you and yours been married, or together, whichever applies to you? Today is our 48th wedding anniversary, heaven only knows how we`re still together, you don`t get that long for murder, and I`ve come pretty close to committing that at times!

52 for us!!!!!! Two life sentences plus!!!!!! There have been times Grrrrr! but in the main it's been pretty good. My DH is very practical, very loyal, fairly tolerant loved the children, my parents and our many animals. Looking back at 21 -23, it was a bit of a gamble!! but luckily it worked through good times and the bad, and there have been one or two of those!! I think having things in common helped, or was even the key! anyhow we're still here, I think/hope tlll death etc.

Willow thank you! smile

cornergran Happy Anniversary to you and I hope you had a lovely day too. flowers I didn't feel the cold, but my husband to be did and it looks like he's got no neck on our wedding photos because he was shivering so much! grin I think it was the skirt of my wedding dress trapping hot air that kept me warm. wink

The thing that stands out to me about our wedding photos is that I look great and it's the only time in my life I have ever thought that about photos of myself. My DH on the other hand usually looks great in photos and as I said it looked like he had no neck. The wedding photo we have framed is one of us an indoor one of us signing the register, so we both look good in it. wink

Wilma we share an anniversary date if not a year. 47 years ago there was also snow. Our black and white photos look like something from a horror film. Dark sky and tombstones! Freezing but as you said we didn't feel it. Hope you've had a good day.

Oh that's so sweet Willow???

Willow500 Tue 01-Mar-16 20:52:39

Congrats Wilma and happy anniversary! Margrete that's amazing - congrats to you too! We've just passed our Sapphire anniversary - 45 years. I'd no idea it was sapphire otherwise I'd have made the most of it grin We've known each other since we were 11, got engaged at 15 and married at 17 (and a day for me) - and they said it would never last!

Thank goodness, I thought we were a year out. All the best for your 51st anniversary.

Gagagran Tue 01-Mar-16 16:11:07

No - we had our celebration weekend last July - 2015, which as you say was the 50th anniversary. I think this thread was resurrected which may have caused the confusion!

BBbevan Tue 01-Mar-16 15:27:56

Gagagran. We were married in January 1965. We had our 50th. Wedding celebrations January 2015 How come you are not having yours until this July. You say you too were married in 1965? [confused ]

margrete Tue 01-Mar-16 11:50:15

14 years. 14th January 2002.

We have both entered our ninth decade of life.

I love this question. People who ask it, who don't know us well, usually want to add a few extra figures, make the 1 into 6, or similar. I love the look on their faces.

We were celebrating our 5th anniversary with a weekend away, and we went to the local church. The vicar afterwards asked us how long. I loved the look on his face. You could almost see the cogs turning in his brain. He wanted so much to add a 0 to the 5....

Married 30 years ago today. There was snow on the ground, but I didn't feel the cold because I was glowing.

The car we hired to go on our honeymoon broke down on the way to the Lake District and we ended up back in Coventry the next day to collect another car. The whole hire car thing turned into a bit of a saga, but we'll always think of the driver of the recovery vehicle with kindness because he was our hero that weekend. The kindness of strangers...

cornergran Mon 29-Feb-16 15:05:37

47 years toorrow. We met at work, married quite quickly. Yes there are irritations, I'm sure I drive him demented some days, but we still love being with each other, just doing simple things gives us great pleasure.

Dear Numberplease - we have been married 48 years and together for 49. I usually reply to people who ask how you stay married for so long that ' you don't talk about divorce'. I liked the quip in last night's The Night Manager: 'it's marriage, not wedded bliss'.

BBbevan Sun 28-Feb-16 19:54:36

LuckyDucky Wed 14-Oct-15 19:24:53

Congrats numberplease.

We've been married for 49 years in March 2016.

Someone knocked at the door. I opened it. there stood a broad shoulders, fit young man, with blue eyes. My first thought was how *soft and kissable his lips looked. He'd come to see someone else. Four of us were house sharing.

We had our first date two months later. At the end of April snow was still thick, well, up to the top of my gum boots. One evening we were supposed to have a date he as late. I found out he couldn't get his car out of the village, so he walked eight miles to see me*. We fed him, but he couldn't stay the night as so he had an early start, or so he said. He walked home, across the snowy fields, with a torch and no moon. estimation.

He usually grins when I tell that story and says, "Love can blow you further than gun powder."
