Do you live far away from where you grew up?

Lived in Isleworth from birth to 18 when I went to college. Since then I have moved to:
Lewisham/ Brockley/ Tunbridge Wells/ Mandeville Jamaica/Kingston Jamaica/Shirley W Mids/Bidford on Avon/ Shirley/ Solihull/Olton How many homes? 17. not bad . My husband's family were in the RAF so he finds it hard to settle for long. Two second homes also- Calne Wiltshire and now Dundee. As bringing up grandchildren with Naval parents, about to move to Portsmouth. Hope to end up in Dundee maybe

If I had been born in Norfolk, I don't think I would ever have wanted to leave it either! We know it well and love it.

I live a mile away from where I grew up, having lived in this same village in Norfolk since then, so I can truly say How Sad is That - haven't even travelled to get back here! On the other hand, I love the rest of the UK and will happily go anywhere to look at other bits of it, specially the bits with hills (see above). I just never had a reason to go anywhere else, and no-one asked me . .

I now live half a mile from where I grew up - having left home at 17, worked in London, married, moved to Singapore, then to Belgium, Northern Ireland, Wales, back to London, then to Holland, and ended up buying a house back where I started. How sad is that?

Born in Herefordshire, married a soldier and spent next 18 years moving between Northern Ireland, Uk, Germany and what was then West Berlin. Finally moved back to Cheshire and have been here 28 years. If I won the Lottery I would move to the South Coast to be nearer to my sisters but otherwise I'm here for good.

I was born and brouht up in Wallsend as well Glassortwo.I now live in the wild west end of Newcastle where DH has lived all his life.
If I have a big lottery win I'll move out of it.

I was brought up on the Isle of Wight then moved to London then Surrey when I married and thence to Hertfordshire. DH is from Liverpool but we met in London. I'd love to move near to the sea again but not to the Island.

I grew up in London and moved about 60 miles north 20 years ago. I hope I'll move east next time, maybe to the Suffolk coast but no definate plans...

Closer than you Jangly , only 4 miles as crow flys .In South Hampshire and have no plans to move . No disrespect to the rest of country ( The UK is beautiful wherever you are ) , but this is home to me !!.

Both Hubby and I were brought up in Wigan but moved to The Scottish Borders in 1977. All 3 of our daughters have stayed in the Borders (one 20 miles away, one 5 miles away and one 100metres away).
I would never consider going back to Lancashire... no family there now anyway.
We have been very contented in Scotland...but Yorkshire Dales or the Isle of Man are places we would like to have lived if we hadn't moved here.

about 40 miles born in Plymouth ended here north Cornwall via Worthing,sussex

Glass,we where going to buya house in Nothumberland at a place called Acombe
it must have been in the early 90s,the houses where on a small development
called Bishops Cross,I changed my mind realized the snow etc would stop DCs
getting into school at Hexham during the winter,It was the worst mistake of my
life as I love the place and the people and could listen to the accent all day.

Back where I started after living in New Quay,Perrin Porth,Anglesey,six months
New York,nearly 10yrs Spain and now back at the beginning The Wirral,in sight of
those famous Liver Birds,pure heaven

Born in Dundee. St Andrews for university. A few years in London. Returned to Dundee for PG diploma partly because it was much cheaper than London. Still here (and so are my family). Off to London for a few days this week!

I feel your sadness, annobel. Scotland is special. I feel I am a naturalised Scot by choice. I chose to go to a Scottish university, stayed eleven years and really didn't want to move away, so when the chance came to come back, I did.

Started in Wallsend Newcastle then all over the world as Dad was in the Air Force, then returned to Newcastle and have lived in various house all with in 20 miles of Wallsend which was my birth place, but will be moving to Northumberland which is approx 36 miles away.

Started in Ayrshire; now in Cheshire. En route, I've lived in: West Lothian, St Andrews, Dundee, Kenya, Devon,Nottingham, Leicestershire, Norfolk, and Greater Manchester. So I've been out of Scotland for 46 years.

I moved away from where I grew up (first nine years of life in Yorkshire, second nine in Lancashire) when I left school and haven't lived there since except for one year in Sheffield. The nearest I've lived to my last growing up home is about two hundred miles and the farthest somewhere between two and a half and three thousand miles away.

Yes - the other side of the world.

I was born and grew up in the Barnsley area of South Yorkshire, then when I was almost 13 I went to live with my paternal grandmother near Rochdale in Lancashire. Hubby was boorn and grew up a couple of miles from there, in Heywood, Lancs, now Greater Manchester. We lived in the area until 1977, then we moved over here to Boston, reckon we`ll be staying here now.

Well, my parents grew up in South London and I always say that is where I come from but my dad was in the army so we kept moving around at home and abroad all through my childhood but when I was 11 I went to boarding school in Berkshire. When I left I swore nothing would ever again get me within 50 miles of Reading. Which is why I went to university in the north of England. I worked in London and when we got married you can guess where we bought a house. My DH's job meant we had to live within reasonable reach of London, Heathrow and Gatwick. I have lived in Berkshire ever since, 27 years in East Berkshire and now 15 years in what used to be north Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). Mind you my children have escaped to York and Letchworth Garden City.

My DH spent his childhood in the house his father lived his whole life in. After that our lives run in parallel

I was born and brought up in Birmingham, my husband came from North Staffordshire but we now live in Cornwall have done for 20 years and wouldn't go back for all the world. Other members of my family went further afield and are in Australia, there are no family members in the Midlands now.
