I saw a thread called Somerset calling so I thought I would start my own "calling" thread. I am from Northampton. Is anyone interested in meeting up?

susiecb Sat 20-Aug-11 08:37:59

I'm a bit further up in Melton Mowbray Leics but I am up for a half way meet up girly lunch never been to northants - would be an adventure.

bookdreamer Sat 20-Aug-11 12:45:18

That would be good. Where would half way be?

jackyann Sat 20-Aug-11 17:54:10

I am in East Northants. Not up to "meeting up" at the moment as I (may have mentioned!) am building a house, and am required as labourer, foreman, gopher & whipper-in (also, worst of all, financial controller!)
But I wanted to register on the Northants radar - and to say - it is beautiful (as is Leicestershire) but don't tell too many people that!

Thanks for your message. Good luck with the building and will wait to hear from you. Are there any more of us out there?

Only just joined the Grans but Northampton caught my eye.I was a student nurse there in the early 1970,s and loved the hospital and the town.I've been back in my home town since '75 but have been to Northampton several times since. My, how things change.Mostly for the better I think.

Not quite into Northants, but I live in the top corner of Bucks where Bucks/Beds/Northants all meet, 3 miles south of Olney.

I often go to MK shopping. Love their M&S. Was thinking of going to Bletchley today charity shopping and might still!

Hi all I live in East Northants am planning to meet other G N's in Oct in Birmingham but would also be happy to meet in our area for coffee and a natter.

granjura Sat 04-Aug-12 17:16:24

We live in Switzerland but are regularly at our flat in Market Harborough - so could meet up for coffee there when I am next over in October. I don't have a car when over - so if you can make it up to MH, that would be great.

JessM Sat 04-Aug-12 17:47:52

Me in MK too.

granjura Sat 04-Aug-12 18:15:25

Do you mean MH (Market Harborough)? If so it would be a good half way house between Northants and Melton Mowbray- hurrah.

nightowl Sat 04-Aug-12 19:16:05

I am on Notts/ Derbyshire border so may be able to make it to Market Harborough - work permitting

Grannybug Sat 04-Aug-12 23:58:46

I was born in the Barret Maternity Home, Northampton. A first class town. Very pretty villages. Lush farmland. Now living on the west coast of bonnie Scotland.

granjura Mon 06-Aug-12 14:15:11

As said, we live a long way away but have a flat in Market H. So would be lovely to meet up when we are there in October. But if you do meet before I get there- have a lovely time. It is a pretty Market Town and we love it there.

Cotton manor gardens, or Rockingham Castle would also make great venues- or even Barnsdale Gardens near Rutland Water - or one of my favourites, The George Hotel in Stamfordsmile

GillieB Mon 06-Aug-12 14:25:47

I have a friend who lives in one of the villages outside Market Harborough - we always like to have a wander round the shops when we go. And we've been to Barnsdale a couple of times (my friend and I wander round the gardens usually while my husband cycles round Rutland Water.) We are actually off to stay with said friend next week - she has a beautiful country garden and we just love staying with her.

I hope you all manage a meet up!

granjura Mon 06-Aug-12 15:46:34

Well, I'll digress a bit and wish you a great holiday there. With a few recommendations

Hambleton Hall Hotel costs a bomb normally- but Mon to Fri they do a lunch for less option. Still expensive, but what a place.. with the best views of Rutland water and fabulous food and setting.

Barnsdale Lodge is also excellent for lunch in the Conservatory!

As mentioned above ' cream tea or lunch at the George in Stamford (with a visit to Burleigh House first) is fantastic.

And a Michelin * pub, the Olive Branch, just a few miles from Barnsdale gardens!

Or in Oakham, a fabulous tea house, with great lunches and teas/cakes, just behind the Church, in a lovely cottage with walled garden.

A visit to Rockingham Castle is fantastic, and so is the wonderful Cotton Manor Gardens. Enjoy!

Just found this page, a bit late I know! I am in East Northants too. Any further thoughts? Northampton sounds more central for meeting up especially for people coming from the south. Might be better to meet somewhere more central for people without transport although Stanwick Lakes is excellent and has a nice restaurant as well as views and lovely walks. Google Stanwick Lakes for more info.
