Abroad?

Just read this thread. Glammanana: we have just started to visit Albir/ Altir frequently because a relative has a house in Altea Vella. It is a lovely part of Spain. Completely the opposite from nearby Benedorm. I can see how you would miss it. X

I live in a village in Cyprus like shaunsmumno1, we have been here for nearly 11 years and love it. The family come on holiday every July and we return to the UK for Christmas every year, so have quality time with the grand daughters.

I have been wondering about this myself Nelliem.

Welcome expats. Now here is an interesting thread for the Euro sceptics in Britain, which would probably be far better posted on the Nigel Farage thread

A lot of people are trying to stop "all these people" from other EU countries settling in Britain.

If we get rid of them, as parties like UKIP would like us to do, what will other EU countries do with you European expats?

I am not getting at you expats but the whole issue of the rise of nationalism in the EU could become something you have to think about.

So where do we expats or gransabroad go for the "local" part of the website?

I just skimmed through this thread thinking it was a new one until I got to Greatnan when I had a big gulp and realised it was originally started in May 2012. Not heard too much from Absent lately in NZ. I hope all is well over there?

It's lovely reading this thread again and seeing the descriptions of the lovely places you all live.

I've just joined. We live in Germany, equidistant from Mannheim and Karlsruhe. It's a beautiful area, wine-producing, and steeped in history. The Rhine valley doesn't make for interesting countryside, but once out of the flat wide valley, there are beautiful, unspoiled areas of forests and mountains.

Our children speak English and German and our grandchildren will most definitely be bi-lingual. My children have often said that they are really grateful for their bi-lingual upbringing.

How charming "flitter" , I think I will do that !!

I live in France, Pays Basque region, at the foot of the Pyrenees with my French husband and artist.

I am also a flitter between Manchester (city centre) and Crete (Chania)

I'm another flitter, in between South Wales and Gandia (Valencia) in Spain, totally a different way of life in Spain {smile} but until the grandchildren are older & no longer need us to look after them we continue to flitter.

Why not join one of the French expat Forums and join the sub-Forum for that particular area and ask there. The are many to choose from.

Now getting my life sorted out and have decided to move north to Britanny - I've loved living in the Dordogne and have a huge circle of friends/aquaintances here - I'm going to miss them so much but I need to get closer to my family in the UK.

Does anyone living in Britanny have any info on walking groups, golf, tennis, singing where there is an element of British ex pats (but not overwhelmingly so)?

I've lived in France (the Midi Pyrenees region)for over 10 years. I don't miss much about the UK except my grandson and talking to other grandmas.

How do I fill my days? I write, I make encouraging noises when MOH brings in the veggies he's lovingly produced in our little 'potager' (allotment) and I just enjoy oversleeping without feeling guilty.

We have managed to get Skype set up so that we can have nice long chats but nothing quite makes up for real time does it?

I am doing a house exchange in October, with a couple who have a gite in Aude, in the Pyrenees, quite close to where I lived for three years when I first emigrated to France. I want to revisit my old haunts and take the opportunity to spend a night or two in Barcelona. They want to come here for the skiing when I am in New Zealand.
I have done several exchanges before and it is a great way to see other parts of the world with just the cost of travel.
