What fab photos glass! So pleased the Burns' Lunch was such a success
So it begins….. Streeting resigns
I've been reminded that over a month ago I was tentatively suggesting doing something in Edinburgh on Burns Night - or rather Burns Lunchtime, as that gives people longer to get home afterwards.
I think we had four possible expressions of interest at that time - Gally, Marelli, Baubles and me. Anyone else going to join us?
And do we want to have a toast to His Nibs, and to The Lasses and someone reciting the Ode to a Haggis, or just a plate of haggis, neeps and chappit tatties and constant conversation?
The receptionist at the venue I had in mind originally sounded distinctly lukewarm when I did a very preliminary recce - could be because I had no idea of numbers or date or anything. If I get it a bit more concrete I will go back.
What fab photos glass! So pleased the Burns' Lunch was such a success
ElizabethI Wish I'd had more time to talk to you yesterday. I wanted to ask if your user name related to ElizabethI of Scotland i.e. the current Queen?
As one of the newest Gransnet I have made my comment elsewhere on this site so here is another one now that I have found this link. Thank you so very much for the lovely Burns afternoon, the ab fab food and a very special thank, you to Elegran for letting a wee or not so wee stranger from Fife into her braw home.
And as I said before the tatties were delicious. (Don't give the secret away) I've already bought them this morning. Shhhhhhhh
Our trip back home was not too bad however at my home on a hill around 12 adult bodies were oot on the road pushing stuck cars up the hill. I believe there was a little road rage around however Im pleased to say I just missed it.
Thanks again all you wonderful grans nets.
I wish you could have come, soop. It was a great day, you would have enjoyed it.
You lot are amazing!
Soop You were definately there in spirt - your presence was felt. Baubles and I had a special extra ((soop)) hug in your honour. Hope you enjoyed your virtual share of the delicious food which we sent to you.
soop we did miss you yesterday
23
had a good fall again last night but I think this morning its starting to melt as the piles on top of the garden furniture and BBQ seem to be diminishing... now we have talk of floods as it melts
its does give you a warm glow I know what you mean.
I have posted the photos of yesterday but I must warn you all I am no David Bailey.
The small photo of Marelli at the top wont let me delete it as the delete button as disappeared, so just disregard that one and scroll down.
I'm chuffed to hear that the Burns gathering was a huge success. Many thanks for the thoughtful texts. I was with you all in spirit and can well imagine that Elegran's house "rocked" with laughter and noisy blethering.
I awoke in the early hours and thought to myself...go stand in the naughty corner for a wee while. Isn't it crazy to think that, in a dream-like state, I remembered misspelling consolation in a previous message. I believe I typed...consellation or a word close to being as daft as.
We in Kintyre have not had snow. Bright and sunny at the mo'
or2 Well it was your drooling about apricot jam on the thread that prompted me to make a batch to fill the gap in my jam supplies left by the poor crop of plums. Such a warm, pleasant way to spend a dreich winter afternoon. Now inspired to make marmalade this week as stock running low.
How's your snow today? Beautiful sunny day here today but I am content to stay close to home after yesterday's adventure. It WAS worth it though. Meet-ups are so special
I have a warm glow about me today - like they have in readybreak adverts.
granny23 Thank you very much for the Apricot jam it was lovely of you to remember it was my favourite. I have had some on toast for my breakfast...it was delicious... mmmmmmmm
Looks like we just got that meeting in before the weather got really bad.
Here the sun is shining, it is cold but dry, no snow (yet)
Arrived home safe and well after a lovely day with the very best of company. Thank you Elegran for being such a great host and for all of your hard work making our day ( and my very first Haggis) so special.
To all you lovely ladies it was great to meet you all and goodnight.
PS Really heavy snow here at home on the North East coast tonight I must learn to keep quiet about the snow not lying near the seaside!!
Well I am home had to follow the snow plough the last three miles but home safe and sound.
elegran thank you so much for a fantastic Burns meeting ( I had haggis

We missed Henrietta! OH!!!
It was lovely to meet a new gransnetter too. Hope you can come to some more of our meet ups, henrietta. And hope to chat to you on here too
What a lovely day you've all had, sounds wonderful
Thank you all for braving the elements to come - and for the return journeys you have done too, when it was all over. I just had to stay here in the warm eating traybake.
Just settled down at home! Thank you for inviting us all, elegran. It was lovely

I was sitting with an ex principal of Univ Strathclyde and a man on his way to pipe at a Burns Supper on the train back from Edinburgh. Very interesting talk about bagpipes. Fun journey.
Then train home from Glasgow and Mr Bags waited for me at the station because he knows how scared I am of driving in snow. That was nice. Meanwhile phoned Minibags to check she was OK. Certainly – she was making snowmen and igloos in the garden with pals.
Gransnet Burns' Birthday meet up was super and all is well. Thank you all for a lovely time.
Thanks again Elegran for your wonderful hospitality. It was such a pity that the Fifers and G23 had to take their leave a wee bit earlier than planned. How lovely it was to meet up with such fabulous wimmen again and to meet others for the first time.
Hope Glass Gillybob and Bags got home without incident.
Here's tae us -
Wha's like us -
Damn few -
And they're a' deid -
Mairs the pity!

Roll on the next get together.
You missed a house, Granny23. It is a house within a house within a house within a house.
I've only just turned on the laptop to see what everyone else has been up to. It was so lovely to see everyone, and now I have enough food in the house to withstand a siege. (That is the house within which is a house, within which is a house, within which is a house.) You all brought so much with you. I just wish more people could have been there to help eat it all up.
Soop, we spoke about you (all nice things) so you were there in spirit. Everyone else who could not come, we will see you at the next meet-up. When will it be? Valentine's day? Easter?
I'd like to second everything Marelli said especially the thanks to Elegran for sharing her lovely house with us (and the house, within a house, within a house
.
I got home just before 6, No snow in Edinburgh, quite a lot near Falkirk and none on Clackmannanshire Bridge - but then - the bypass was closed (I presume an accident) and I was directed uphill on a bendy country road which got worse and worse, over a foot of fresh snow, car skiting all over the place but thankfully nothing coming the other way. Anyway, I made it down hill and home OK through heavy rain. Felt quite proud of myself but Himself remarked how lucky I was that there was no snow. [humph] Good job he doesn't know the half of it
Oh, that sounds absolutely lovely! Good to hear you've had a happy time
Thanks to Elegran for today she made us all so welcome , the food and company were first class , thanks to everyone for a lovely day.
Well done, Elegran...you are a star!
