I've been reminded that over a month ago I was tentatively suggesting doing something in Edinburgh on Burns Night - or rather Burns Lunchtime, as that gives people longer to get home afterwards.

I think we had four possible expressions of interest at that time - Gally, Marelli, Baubles and me. Anyone else going to join us?

And do we want to have a toast to His Nibs, and to The Lasses and someone reciting the Ode to a Haggis, or just a plate of haggis, neeps and chappit tatties and constant conversation?

The receptionist at the venue I had in mind originally sounded distinctly lukewarm when I did a very preliminary recce - could be because I had no idea of numbers or date or anything. If I get it a bit more concrete I will go back.

elegran I would love to join you all but it all depends if DD can get holiday from work, I will check and come back to you.

Elegran Wed 09-Jan-13 23:05:31

Do your best, glass we need you!

GillieB Thu 10-Jan-13 14:13:20

I might have thought about it if somebody else was coming from Newcastle, but I have a dental appointment at 11.30 a.m. I have already had to cancel it once because I was in hospital, so I don't think I had better do it again!

Marelli Thu 10-Jan-13 15:55:55

I'll be there! grin Don't know if Gally's seen this yet, Elegran - she may be away at that time. Hope not.

Elegran Thu 10-Jan-13 18:07:09

Gally has pmed me to say she will be away. It will be good to see you again Marelli. Can you persuade Lurkio to come?

Elegran Thu 10-Jan-13 18:09:32

GillieB haggis is very good for teeth - it is boneless. I don't think you would make a lunchtime in Edinburgh after your appointment though, unless your dentist is a quickqorker..

baubles Thu 10-Jan-13 18:42:46

Yes, I'll be there smile

I've never been to one of these thingies. I wouldn't mind if we did a bit of Burns, I'd have to read it though, rather than recite. Don't think I could learn anything properly in the time.

Surely there must be more Scottish grannies about?

Not that it's confined to grannies, of course, Scottish or otherwise smile

harrigran Thu 10-Jan-13 18:55:56

It's a no from me too sad

Elegran Thu 10-Jan-13 19:34:26

That should have read "unless your dentist is a quick worker". Another case of uncooperative fingers.

Harrigran that is a shame - but there will be other Edinburgh meetups, see you then.

Baubles I'll pencil you in for the address to a haggis then?

I hope there are a few more of us, we will feel right eejits sitting round a table for three, drinking toasts to each other and fishing Baubles' Burns book out of the soup. Should we expand it to include Significant Others and guests? I think someone has to toast The Lasses and it should really be a laddy. If we are doing it properly we also need a toast to The Immortal Memory. Anyone up for that?

Oh!! Have just thought - should we pipe in the haggis? Hellllp!

baubles Thu 10-Jan-13 19:47:59

I'm afraid my SO would run a mile and I'm definitely a non starter with the bagpipes!

jeni Thu 10-Jan-13 20:49:39

This has just reminded me to buy a swede!
Thanks!

I'm so tired, I'm going to bed!

Goodnight all!

Marelli Thu 10-Jan-13 20:56:02

Granny23, Bags, soop - whaur are ye the noo? grin

Marelli Thu 10-Jan-13 21:48:49

Elegran, Lurkio will find out if she can get the time off, so you can put her down as a 'maybe'! smile

baubles Fri 11-Jan-13 07:14:32

Just bumping this to see if there are any more interest.

Marelli Fri 11-Jan-13 11:26:17

I've got another one coming - won't put her name up in case she backs out, as she's new! wink

baubles Mon 14-Jan-13 21:26:03

Any update on this? Are we defintootly on? I need to confirm a days annual leave smile

jeni Mon 14-Jan-13 21:45:14

Wish I could comesad but its a bit far . Even for a haggis. I'll fish the one bro bought me from Perth out of the freezer and eat in solitary state wi me mashed neaps an champit tatties.
The piling in will be performed on a recorder.
But the haggis will be well and truly addressed and toasted, along with the 'Immortal memory!'

jeni Mon 14-Jan-13 21:46:14

Piping NOT piling (could be Freudian at my weight)

Gally Mon 14-Jan-13 22:12:40

I shall be celebrating the Auld Alliance/Vieille Alliance in lieu. Not sure if we will be partaking of haggis in Paris (hope not!). Will be celebrating memories - Immortal perhaps wink

Marelli Mon 14-Jan-13 22:13:48

Gally flowers.

jeni Mon 14-Jan-13 22:54:06

Gally flowers know what you mean!hugs

Elegran Mon 14-Jan-13 23:01:56

We will raise a glass to absent friends when we meet, Gally Ones we know and ones we never met but read about in posts on the forum.

Elegran Tue 15-Jan-13 12:24:24

OK, consensus is that half-a-dozen of us are meeting at mine on 25th Jan to toast the national bard, eat haggis and blether. Is anyone else joining us?

soop Tue 15-Jan-13 15:04:49

I would love to join you, Elegran. If you lived in Glasgow, I would make the journey by bus. Mr soop is not up to driving from here to Edinburgh. I hope that you have a grand time. Raise a glass of cheer in my absence, please. Once hospital visits are over and done with, I shall look forward to the next gathering. smile
