I've been reminded that over a month ago I was tentatively suggesting doing something in Edinburgh on Burns Night - or rather Burns Lunchtime, as that gives people longer to get home afterwards.

I think we had four possible expressions of interest at that time - Gally, Marelli, Baubles and me. Anyone else going to join us?

And do we want to have a toast to His Nibs, and to The Lasses and someone reciting the Ode to a Haggis, or just a plate of haggis, neeps and chappit tatties and constant conversation?

The receptionist at the venue I had in mind originally sounded distinctly lukewarm when I did a very preliminary recce - could be because I had no idea of numbers or date or anything. If I get it a bit more concrete I will go back.

Oh harrigran - here's a bunch of flowers! It takes a lot more than a gentle comment like that to bother any of us. You met the majority of us at Gally's that time, so you know what a feisty bunch we are wink! xx

Elegran Mon 28-Jan-13 09:35:13

You should have been there harrigran - to see how UNlikely a bunch we all were to take offence!

harrigran Sun 27-Jan-13 23:26:21

Phew, I spent the afternoon wondering whether I should leave before I got hounded out.

Elegran Sun 27-Jan-13 14:00:08

We are not easily insulted Harrigran. We know that we are old enough to be grans.

glassortwo Sun 27-Jan-13 13:44:30

grin grin your forgiven harri

harrigran Sun 27-Jan-13 13:36:06

I am mortified, I have just reread what I wrote. No insults intended, you are all beautiful ladies, I had not met gillybob before blush

Elegran Sun 27-Jan-13 12:30:52

I've been having rather strange meals. Yesterday a friend and I had haggis, neeps and mashed potato, followed by trifle and wine/fruit jelly (but the jelly has completely dissolved into the juice of the cut fruit) She took a generous helping if haggis home for her husband. Today it is cheese and oatcakes (very healthy) followed by a large helping of cream trifle (not so healthy)

Wonder what tomorrow will bring? There is still plenty of haggis . . . .

glassortwo Sun 27-Jan-13 09:54:45

Just as well I know you harri grin grin <leaves in a huff>

Elegran Sun 27-Jan-13 09:52:59

We will all go into a huff and leave. Then what will you do for haggis and chat?

Granny23 Sun 27-Jan-13 01:14:10

That is undoubtedly true Harrigran but you do realise you have just insulted the other 8 of us envy grin

harrigran Sun 27-Jan-13 00:46:02

baubles it is our house and is heaven on earth if there can be such a thing, one of these days we will get in.

I want to wholeheartedly agree that elegran is multi talented and made us all so welcome yesterday.

baubles Sat 26-Jan-13 19:44:31

Glass I love your photos of the thrush. Is that the house you are renovating? It looks as though it's in a beautiful location.

Soop 'foolish' may be more apt grin

flowers for Elegran what a multi talented lady she is.

glass These are great photos. I do wish I'd been there with you.

Your other photos are lovely - and I adore the thrush in the snow. Beautiful.

Great pics and you all quite clearly had a great time. So looking forward to a meet-up I can get to again. I'm a bit shocked by lack of haggis where I live – I never found it hard to get a properly authentic one in London, a couple of hundred miles further south than where I am now. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have made one myself as I am sure my lovely butcher in the market could have supplied me with a sheep's paunch – so long as I asked in advance.

Perhaps when I am living in New Zealand – which has loads of people of Scottish ancestry plus loads of sheep – I might set up an annual cottage industry of haggis production. There's a thought. smile

Great photos Glass, still can`t get used to Marelli with longer hair! Looks and sounds like you all had a brilliant time. Who addressed the haggis?

soop Sat 26-Jan-13 16:43:54

glass I enjoyed looking at the happy photos. Baubles it was brave of you to read the "tribute" to the haggis. I'm looking forward to the next gathering. I wish you all a pleasant, peaceful weekend. moon
Afore I go...GO, Andy, go...! We're rooting for you. smile

Marelli Sat 26-Jan-13 16:35:57

We had forgotten to bring the bagpipes, so we had to sing Scotland the Brave while the Haggis went on a tour round the room! grin

soop Sat 26-Jan-13 16:32:55

The photos are lovely, Glass...they come with their own sound-track: that of merry banter grin
