This is a preliminary enquiry. I should like to invite my Gransnet friends to lunch before I set off to New Zealand, which will be somewhere between 5 and 15 May. I live in Darlington which is relatively easy for North-eastern and east coast Scottish grannies to get to. West coast Scottish grannies would have a longer journey. I think you would have to do a train to Glasgow, then change for Edinburgh before the train to Darlington. Grannies who live in other parts of the country would be hugely welcome too.

I need a sort of ballpark figure so that I can book a place and arrange the catering. I was thinking some time towards the end of April. We can discuss exact dates so that those I particularly cherish don't get left out because of other commitments.

Is anyone up for this? Let me know or glass who is also helping with this plan and trying very hard to keep me in order.

Sorry I'm NE but will be in transit on 20th Aprilbut but I will wish you Bon voyage.
. I use yahoo as a travelling email. On another thread hotmail is being transferred to outlook. In oz andNZ I've never been able to connect with outlook express .im assuming this is the same.

I have booked a restaurant table for 12.00 on 20 April. At the moment, I reckon the definites are Gally, moomin, Marelli, baubles, glass, harrigran, Elegran and gillybob.

Non-definites
Janeainsworth has another commitment but might be able to change the date and Bags doesn't yet know about her scouts' event. Helshea, phoenix and nanaej have expressed interest and I should love to see them.

I need to confirm numbers a couple of days before 20 April, so if anyone, listed above as a Non-definite or not yet mentioned, would like to come would they please pm before 17 April?

I shall of course let everyone know the venue nearer the date.

Our train doesn't get into Darlington until 12.30 (?) absent, but we'll jump into a taxi and get there as soon as we can. Gally, *Elegran and I have bought our tickets and I think baubles might be doing it tomorrow.

That's no problem Marelli. The station is a very short taxi ride (£4.50) from the centre of town and I don't suppose early birds will start stuffing our faces the moment we arrive. grin

harrigran Sun 03-Mar-13 22:59:00

Bags Mon 04-Mar-13 11:59:58

Still hoping to come. If I can come, I might even be on the same train from Edinburgh as the 'easter Scots' smile

absent Mon 04-Mar-13 13:17:38

I'm keeping my fingers crossed Bags – although that does make tpyig fiddicult.

Marelli Mon 04-Mar-13 13:22:28

Hope so, Bags. smile!

nanaej Mon 04-Mar-13 21:16:09

Bags Wed 06-Mar-13 21:11:32

I can come smile

Gally Wed 06-Mar-13 22:26:41

Great news Bags. We are booked on the 10.30 from Waverley and back on the 17.20 from Darlington. Hope you can join us!

gillybob Wed 06-Mar-13 23:25:46

That's great Bags so glad you will be coming. Us NE grans will probably get on your train at Newcastle. smile

absent Thu 07-Mar-13 07:03:48

Terrific Bags I'm so pleased. grin

Elegran Thu 07-Mar-13 11:00:37

This train is going to positively vibrate by the time we are all on board.

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 11:23:58

The 1030 from Waverley is the one I'm planning to get, but I'll need to get an earlier one back to Edinburgh because it's another two and a half hours westwards for me after that, and that's not including any waiting time.

soop Thu 07-Mar-13 11:55:32

Sadly, I canna join you lot, 'though I would love to. Am awaiting date for surgery. Hospital could confirm any time soon. Pissed off because I'm certain you'll have fun and I would have liked to wish absent Bon voyage. If I should get a date for May, say, I may come back to confirm that by hook or by crook I'll be there...smile

Marelli Thu 07-Mar-13 12:45:36

I hope you can manage to come, soop! This is going to be so good! We'll get to meet nanaej, too - I don't know if any of the Scottish grans have met you, Nanaej? smile

Marelli Thu 07-Mar-13 12:47:30

Elegran, which coach are you in? Gally and I are in E but not seated together.

soop Thu 07-Mar-13 12:52:34

Twinkle Toes I shall do my best. From the west coast to Glasgow takes the bus three plus hours. From Glasgow to Edinburgh takes a further hour. Then there's the bit to Darlington. Perhaps when I've been "repaired" we could arrange another meet in Glasgow. smile

absent Thu 07-Mar-13 12:56:08

soop You can leave it literally to the eleventh hour and still be included if you can manage it. I'll let you have details when I get round to letting everyone else know. One extra will not present any problem whatsoever. It would be delightful if you could make it but we'll all just have to see what date the hospital comes up with. [crossed finger emoticon again]

Elegran Thu 07-Mar-13 13:07:07

Marelli, I don't think I have a specific seat booked! I shall dig out my ticket and the receipt and see.
