Meet ups/where are you?

East Midlands (ish) meet-up anyone?

Started to feel really envious of everyone else meeting up so wondered if there was any mileage in trying to organise an East Mids meet-up? Not sure how many people live within striking distance.

We don't even have a 'local' GN in Leicestershire, Notts seem to have two people meeting and Derbyshire doesn't seem much better - so, is there anyone out there who fancies meeting somewhere in the East Mids.

We have fairly good rail links, lots of roads and even an airport! grin

Fine by me What does anyone else think? Where will you be coming from?

Tegan Tue 28-May-13 21:33:44

Is it still at the Thistle?

kittylester Wed 29-May-13 10:54:33

Fine by me - what about everyone else and what time?

Tegan Wed 29-May-13 12:09:58

I can fit in with most things as long as it's after 12'ish. I have to leave work by 10.30 anyway that week but need to go home and let the dog out etc.

ok - who's up for this - 12.30(ish) Tuesday 18 June Thistle Hotel at East Midlands airport?

Tegan Wed 29-May-13 22:16:05

Sounds good to me.

Anyone else for East Mids meet-up?

The venue is handy for EMA (!!), M1, A50, A38 and A6, Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.

Date -Tuesday 12th June at 12.30.

The more the merrier! wine

Shame I won't be able to join you - have fun, cheers smile

specki4eyes Thu 06-Jun-13 08:53:29

So - its getting close now and I leave here next Wednesday - my internet access may be iffy after that.

Shall we say that we 3 will meet at the EMA Thistle at 12.30 on Tuesday 18th? If either of you two would rather not, given the poor response, I quite understand and its no problem for me..but lets say for definite whether we're 'on' or not soon. xx

gracesmum Thu 06-Jun-13 12:23:06

Yay!! (hate the expression) Looks like I can come out to play at EMA too! Do I need any details as to how to get there or do I literally follow directions to the airport?

kittylester Thu 06-Jun-13 12:28:00

Yay!! gm smile

The Thistle is on the airport 'campus' as it were. Not sure exactly where but sure to be signs.

Looking forward to it and anyone else is welcome to join our (extremely) select group! sunshine

granjura Thu 06-Jun-13 13:19:28

Turn left out of airport, walk down to round about and the Thistle is just the other side. 2 mins walk. Have fun smile

gracesmum Thu 06-Jun-13 13:29:24

So Do I have to park at the sirport or is there a hotel car park?

kittylester Thu 06-Jun-13 13:52:55

Looks as though you can park there but it's £5 shock. I'll have a think!! grin

Tegan Thu 06-Jun-13 16:35:14

Don't want to complicate things but have been looking at Breedon on the Hill; haven't been there for years but they have all sorts of lovely things there...garden centre, cafe, shops and [from memory] a fascinating little church. I might check it out when I've got a spare couple of hours. It's just down the road from the airport [past the racetrack] although how far down the road I'm not sure. Haven't really been that way since it was the main road to Birmingham. Specki; I'll pm you my mobile number [when I can remember it].

Tegan Thu 06-Jun-13 16:43:46

Oh; hang on..did you mean the airport charges £5 or the hotel. My daughter takes her son swimming at the hotel and doesn't pay [mind you, I'm not getting in a swimming costume to save £5, but people might pay me £5 not to...not a pleasant sight sad].

granjura Thu 06-Jun-13 16:55:36

I meant turn left out of the airport arrivals if you come by plane! If coming by car, turn right into the airport and right at the roundabout, and the hotel is there.

specki4eyes Sat 08-Jun-13 19:25:01

Tegan, Breedon is a good suggestion but could we make it our NEXT venue? As its my last day in the Uk for months, I'll only really have time for lunch - hope you understand. I'll pm you my mobile number too.
I'm sure that as we're lunching at the Thistle, they won't charge us to park there will they?
Yes - turn into the airport and turn right at the first roundabout into the Thistle car park.
Great that you're coming gracesmum- we would have needed a cauldron otherwise!

specki4eyes Sun 09-Jun-13 17:13:21

Now I KNOW I'll only have time for lunch! My DS told me today that he is having an operation on his nasal passage on tuesday 18th! He was going to drive himself there and drive himself back afterwards! after a general anaesthetic! So Mum's taken over and I'll drop him off - come to lunch and then go and pick him up ... how glad I am that I can do it!

Tegan Sun 09-Jun-13 18:02:22

Is The Thistle still the easiest place for you to get to, specki? Would there be anywhere that would mean you had less driving around to do?

specki4eyes Sun 09-Jun-13 18:22:56

Hi Tegan - so kind of you to think of me. Well - EMA isn't the best place for me but I'm reluctant to change things this late in the day. If you all have any better ideas, obviously I'll go with the consensus but don't want to cause ructions and get everyone confused. My nearest city is Lichfield on that day, so for me, anywhere in that area would be fine. What does everyone else think?

Tegan Sun 09-Jun-13 18:48:54

There's nowhere more central for everyone to get to that I can think of [and it would have to be eastwards because of gracesmum having to travel that way]. Think will have to leave it at the hotel but don't rush around if it's too much; there's always another day.

specki4eyes Sun 09-Jun-13 22:40:19

No other days for me I'm afraid - not this trip! I don't know when I'll next be back in the UK this year. So its Tuesday 18th or nothing! Don't worry Tegan - EMA is only 45 mins from Lichfield on the A50 - lets keep it at the Thistle for this meeting. All agree?
By the way, one of my sons lives in Borrowash - not far from your neck of the woods!
