Not too late to live down up to that image!

mollie Wed 26-Feb-14 21:37:38

oh now you've ruined my day! I had such a vivid image of you all behaving disgracefully...

Soutra Wed 26-Feb-14 21:20:55

Is there an Egyptian Mummiesnet? grin

rosesarered Wed 26-Feb-14 21:09:40

Right, time to tell the truth! We were a table full of oldies, yakking away [but fairly quietly] scoffing plates of salad, chortling now and again in a fairly ladylike way in the cafe. We were there for ages but managed not to offend anyone or break anything. When we left the cafe we browsed round the museum shop, and some of us bought a few things. Then we went home.An enjoyable day it has to be said, but not as entertaining as the lies we all told on here, and I wish now that we really had done the conga round the Egyptian showcases, might have livened up those old mummies[and us old grannies.] grinWhy is the truth never as good?

Did you get Alfred's jewel back for us?

mollie Wed 26-Feb-14 20:55:05

OMG, and they spent so much money of that refit! What a shame. So the dreaming spires are now the dizzy spires...lol!

merlotgran Wed 26-Feb-14 20:54:33

We're OK, roses. Driest part of the UK. sunshine

rosesarered Wed 26-Feb-14 20:43:06

mollie it will never be back to normal again! soutra you are deserting the dreaming spires for 'the other place ' [as the university here calls Cambridge!]You will be off up to Manchester next, you and your bus pass.
There must be loads of people that could get to Cambridge surely, or is East Anglia more than usually full of water at the moment?

mollie Wed 26-Feb-14 20:16:03

Maybe someone ought to be warning Cambridge? I'm glad you all had a lovely time, how long before the Ashmolean is back to normal?

Soutra Wed 26-Feb-14 19:59:04

Oh I know, I have done both. It's actually more like 1 3/4 hours to Oxford (and yesterday 2 hours on account of the traffic shock)and the extra time to Cambridge is because it sits in Bedford bus station for a frustrating 15 minutes!! I could drive to the Madingley Park and Ride but then I've still got to get the bus into town.
Sorry you weren't able to make Oxford yesterday, Mollie.

mollie Wed 26-Feb-14 19:42:54

Warning Soutra, I live an hours drive to either Cambridge or Oxford but the X5 takes 2 hours to Cambridge but just an hour to Oxford! That put me off taking the bus to the lovely Cambridge...

Culag Wed 26-Feb-14 19:32:46

Yes, it's time I took the X5 again!

Soutra Wed 26-Feb-14 19:30:23

Looking promising, then? I live about 50 miles away but can get there by X5 bus on my bus pass!!! (as I did yesterday going to Oxford. It is slower than driving but increasingly I find I am happy to let someone else "take the strain"!

Culag Wed 26-Feb-14 19:00:27

I'm up for it too! I was beginning to think there weren't many in this area.

merlotgran Wed 26-Feb-14 18:44:35

I'm up for that, Soutra. I live twelve miles north of Cambridge.

Soutra Wed 26-Feb-14 18:39:27

Given the success of the Oxford lunch, would there be any take-up by GNetters further East for a similar "do" in Cambridge?
