Edinburgh meetup during festival?

While the Newcastle meetup was being organised, one in Edinburgh during the festival was mentioned. Edinburgh is packed to the crowsteps in August, so it may not be easy to book for a large party, but there are plenty of eateries so surely something will be possible. Any opinions on where to eat? ROSL as we have done before? Somewhere else?

Dates of festivals are -:

Edinburgh International Festival 8-31 August
Festival Fringe 1st to 25th August
Edinburgh Art Festival 31 July – 31 August
Edinburgh International Book Festival 9 - 25 August

More about each of the festivals plus links at www.edinburghspotlight.com/2014/01/info-dates-for-2013-festivals/ (I think they are still using the same webpage as last year and haven't changed the name)

Will add your name to the possibles for October, Baubles A shame you will miss August. We will think of you.

Seven at the moment, who all seem OK with Jane's 19th, 20th, 21st or 22nd August. Can we narrow that down? Or will we see where we can book a table? And where shall we go? The hot and dusty city will be full of people but the leafy suburbs and the sticks countryside are not as easy to reach for those coming in from furrin parts the northeast and the wild west. The whole point of Edinburgh in August is the crowds anyway.

Marmight has indicated that she has beds if anyone wants them.

Bump. No posts since Saturday suggesting which date is best of the ones on offer, or any preferences on where to go. Shall I just try booking the ROSL which we know is central and pleasant, for whichever day is possible?

I'll make it for 8 people, which allows for a last-minute add-on - any more for any more? 12.00 for 12.30? Time for a snifter before eating.

Crow Mon 28-Jul-14 15:36:37

Oh goody I can make the 19th as Australian family will have moved down south. That might not sound very good, I mean goody I can make the meet up if that is okay.
I hope it isn't too late to add my name.
thank you Elegran

Tegan Mon 28-Jul-14 15:39:09

Unless anything unforseen happens I'm ok with any of those dates [as long as the trains are running!!!].

Elegran Mon 28-Jul-14 16:42:35

Not too late, Crow It'll be great to meet you. I'll add your name to the list. You say you can make the 19th. Is that just the 19th, or the other possible dates too?

I'd better make in 9, then, in case there are any more additions! Or even 10!

Elegran Mon 28-Jul-14 16:42:46

It not in.

Crow Mon 28-Jul-14 17:02:13

I can do all the week days of that week just not the week-end Elegran thank you.

Elegran Mon 28-Jul-14 17:43:17

Ok Crow.

Marelli Mon 28-Jul-14 19:10:27

So that's the 19th then, Elegran? I'll mark it on the calendar. smile

Elegran Mon 28-Jul-14 19:16:11

I've not yet looked to see whether that is free, Marelli and Iam waiting to see if Glassortwo replies to my PM to ask whether she can make it. she sounded interested in Newcastle. Ah!!! email notification has just pinged.

Elegran Mon 28-Jul-14 19:19:06

No, *Glassortwo" can't make it, she is busy at the house. She would love to see us all but hopes to be there next time.

Marelli Mon 28-Jul-14 19:26:18

sad - I'm fine with any day - sorry that glass can't make it, but hopefully she'll make the next one.

glassortwo Mon 28-Jul-14 19:27:59

Ahhhhh no I cant make it this time we are having the rest of our holidays up at the house, but I know you will enjoy yourselves.

janeainsworth Mon 28-Jul-14 22:31:10

Sorry you won't be there Glass but hope you make good progress at the house and looking forward to seeing everyone else.

Elegran Wed 30-Jul-14 10:39:26

Ok. no suggestions of any other venues so I'm about to book for 8 at 12 for 12.30 at the ROSL as soon as I finish this cup of coffee. Date will depend on availability. Your last chance to differ.

The have an "Observation bar" which from the photo looks like the room with the bay window we were in last December, so if you are there early, that looks like the place to go.

Elegran Wed 30-Jul-14 11:43:06

Finished coffee and more than one chocolate mini-roll and have booked for 8 of us on Wednesday 20th August at 12.30 at the ROSL. There is a bar for those who arrive before that and want to get ahead on the refuelling. Does everyone know where it is? 100 Princes Street, just a bit West of Frederick street, near Boots, opposite the Ross Bandstand. Phone no 0131 225 1501. It is a narrow entrance between two jewellers shops.
