Who is interested in meeting round about 7th September?

If you are on Facebook the Gransnet Edinburgh Calendar is at https://www.facebook.com/GransnetEdinburgh/app_101709316537832

Elegran Sun 31-Aug-14 10:44:55

Meet about 2.30, do you think? Or shall we make it 3?

Elegran Sun 31-Aug-14 10:41:46

There will be five of us, Marelli. We have not heard from Ayse, so I think I shall PM her for an opinion. I can't see her objecting to Italians in kilts, though.

Marelli Sun 31-Aug-14 10:41:29

Just checked and it seems there are 5 of us?

Marelli Sun 31-Aug-14 10:38:28

I can't speak for Elizabeth1, of course....oh yes I can!! wink! Think she may be very happy with Italians in kilts grin. She's up in Aberdeen at the moment seeing her daughter (see December meetup thread), but will no doubt be logging on here shortly. smile
How many of us are able to come?

Elegran Sat 30-Aug-14 21:02:16

Missoni inspired kilts? Now there's a nice thought! It sounds as though three of us would find Missoni's acceptable.

So what do Ayse and Elizabeth1 think? Are you for the place with Italians in kilts?

Marelli Sat 30-Aug-14 21:01:09

Sounds ok to me! smile

baubles Sat 30-Aug-14 20:41:52

When I last passed by Hotel Missoni there were a couple of male staff dressed in Missoni inspired kilts on the doorstep. Very easy on the eye grin

I'm happy to try there unless anyone has a preference for some other venue.

Marelli Sat 30-Aug-14 18:17:57

Hotel Missoni would be easy to reach, too, wouldn't it? It does sound quite nice! What does everyone else think? smile

Elegran Sat 30-Aug-14 16:59:29

Great King street crosses Dundas Street, about as far down from Queen Street as Queen Street is from Princes Street. Hotel Indigo is nearer to Princes Street and bus/train.

They both sound good, as does Hotel Missoni (1 George IV Bridge £20.50) from Baubles' link. Everything on that menu has its Italian name - which sounds wonderful, whatever it tastes like.

Over to you, folks.

There are a few more suggestions on this site.

Marelli Sat 30-Aug-14 16:15:29

Been having a look at some more centrally-situated places for tea, Elegran. 'Hotel Indigo' (used to be the Osborne) is from £17.50 and serves from 2-4 on a Sunday. That's round the corner from John Lewis.
'The Howard' £16.95 and serves from 2-5 every day. Looks quite 'genteel'...!
'The Old Waverley' on Princes St - only £8.95, so I don't know if that would be very good, but it might be?
Then of course, there's Harvey Nicks? £20.
Have a look at this website: Afternoontea.co.uk?
Indigo has a good review for afternoon tea.
The Howard also has very good review. It's on Great King Street (I don't know where that is, but it can't be far from Princes St, I don't think)?
The Old Waverley - let's forget about that one - the review said 'It was terrible!'
Harvey Nicks looks ok but not really fantastic reviews.

There wil be another in October, hildajenniJ Watch the threads! (I am not starting to post much about that until the September one is over - three threads simultaneously about Edinburgh meet-ups would be a bit confusing)

hildajenniJ Sat 30-Aug-14 09:45:47

Oh dear, I can't make 7th Sept as I'm looking after Dad. Edinburgh is easy for me to get to from Northumberland though.

Just read some reviews of The Broadsheet. Limp sandwiches and dry cakes. Back to the drawing board.

Elegran Sat 30-Aug-14 08:32:38

Bump. It is only a week away and we still don't know where we are meeting!

I've only had one answer to my appeal for places to go for afternoon tea. Any more opinions?

Here is a fine Scottish bargain if we act now.

No idea what this place is like, but the outside of it on Google Earth looks good. It is in behind the courts, near the corner where the steps go down past the Scotsman presses.

Moomin so sorry not to be seeing you in September - but there is December - and there will be a meeting in October too. A busy time here. I wonder what will happen in November?

Marelli, I don't know yet what time we will meet, earlyish afternoon I should think, if it is for afternoon tea. We have still to decide where to go. I have had a quick look and I rather fancy Prestonfield House £20 (been there and it was gorgeous)

But it is a good way out (bus from North Bridge to within half a mile of Prestonfield Nos. 2, 14 & 33, car from city bypass via Sherriffhall exit, lots of free on-site parking. If you use sat nav the postcode is EH16 5UT)

The good old ROSL do afternoon tea too, £14, very convenient to get to and we know it well.

I shall do a bit more research and return with any other likely places.

Marelli Thu 28-Aug-14 09:33:47

The Fifers will be ok, Elegran. What time will we be meeting?

moomin Thu 28-Aug-14 09:26:23

Elegran, sorry but I'm going to have to bow out of this meet-up sad as a family commitment has come up for that weekend.

But I'm up for the December theatre get-together!

Elegran Wed 27-Aug-14 23:18:34

Can I check again that no-one is going to have any problems travelling to Edinburgh on Sunday September 7th? Remember that timetables are different on a Sunday.

Elizabeth1 Wed 27-Aug-14 07:45:51

It's a good job my diet starts the following week otherwise I'd just be a hermit for far too long wink must get into my bikini for November you know sunshine

Elegran Tue 26-Aug-14 22:24:59

"Ladies who tea" doesn't have the same ring as "Ladies who lunch" but there will be cupcake cupcake cupcake
And wine too.

moomin Tue 26-Aug-14 22:19:10

Yes, afternoon tea sounds frightfully civilised and I'm all for that!

Elegran Tue 26-Aug-14 19:45:13

Thanks ,* Marelli, Elizabeth1* Any more preferences?

Marelli Tue 26-Aug-14 19:29:33

Afternoon tea, too, please brewcupcakegrin
