Meet ups/where are you?

Scotrail return between any Scottish stations for £19 (£35 in first class)

I've just booked a ticket to Aviemore for a few days, and found that until the end of March it only costs me £19 return. It would have been £39.60 one way.

Is there scope here for a meetup in Aberdeen or Inverness between March 11 and March 30th? Or anywhere else? It's would be a pity to miss a bargain.

Aberdeen could be ok for me depending on the date.

I'm just a girl who can't say 'no' (as you already know, Elegran)! Elizabeth1 - how are you fixed for this?

Elizabeth1 Wed 25-Feb-15 21:23:08

Sound really good fun. I'm home on the 20th Elegran is this price with a rail ticket? I love both cities.

Marelli Wed 25-Feb-15 21:38:34

Is this with the Senior Railcard, Elegran? I think I could only do 23rd or 30th as have other things planned during the month. smile

It's Club55 from Scotrail and lasts until the end of March. It's been a regular feature for over 55s at quieter times of year for ages now with First Group, but now that they are losing the franchise, I suppose we won't get it any more. sadsad It costs only £17 between any 2 stations in Scotland with a Senior Railcard. There are some restrictions on traveling at rush hours during the week, but not at weekends.

Is it only me that read the first bit of the OP as "Scrotal return" and for a split second wondered if it was the penile version of something like acid reflux? blush confused[]

Elegran Wed 25-Feb-15 22:09:59

It is without a senior railcard - anyone can get it if you are over 55 (I think that covers all of us) You have to show some proof of age when you show it, I assume a bus pass would do.

Phoenix some people always read things as something like that if it is at all possible.

It's probably because I tend to speed read.

Hi, sounds like a good plan. Am only sorry that I can't join you. I don't know what's happened to my diary. I thought I was meant to have more time once I retired! March has gone bonkers. Hope you do arrange something with the girls "up North" and that it goes well. It usually does!

Elegran Thu 26-Feb-15 12:01:27

KateK Can you recommend anywhere to go to eat in Aberdeen? We'd better assume the 23rd or 30th since that is when Marelli can be there (There's no show without Mr Punch, as they say)

There is a train at 9.29 from Edinburgh which gets in to Aberdeen at 11.46, but it doesn't stop anywhere in Fife. Stops are at Dundee, Arbroath, Montrose and Stonehaven.

Sorry you can't make it at all, Jane10. Next time!

I hope you don't mind me sticking my beak in, the last time I was in Aberdeen we had a lovely lunch in a tea room called Cup on Little Belmont street.
It was so good we skipped the hotel breakfast and went there instead. The food and absence is lovely. You can look them up on the web and Trip Advisor.
Have a lovely time. x

J52 Thu 26-Feb-15 12:12:12

Ambience not absence! x

Elegran Thu 26-Feb-15 12:50:04

Thank you, J52 All contributions gratefully received! I have not been in Aberdeen for many years.

J52 Thu 26-Feb-15 13:12:23

Its a lovely city, I went along a few times when DH had business meetings there. I could always busy myself looking around the shops, museums, art gallery and tea shops! x

Marelli Thu 26-Feb-15 15:25:46

No - please organise a day to suit yourselves shockblush! Ms Punch doesn't have to attend everything (although she does like to try) wink!

Elegran Thu 26-Feb-15 15:32:03

How could we leave you out? So far the 23rd and 30th seem the best days for all.

Katek Thu 26-Feb-15 15:38:51

Depends on whether we're gong for lunch lunch or light lunch. 23rd or 30th both good for me!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Feb-15 15:43:41

You going skiing Elegran?

Katek Thu 26-Feb-15 15:46:47

Oh, and you an get another £2 off the fare if you book using a senior or disabled railcard. Bargain or what!

Katek Thu 26-Feb-15 15:50:09

Oops, sorry When, duplicate info. Teach me to read entire thread!

Marelli Thu 26-Feb-15 15:52:38

Just checked and my train would be 9.44 from Markinch getting in at 11.46. Elizabeth1 - what do you think? Are you coming?

Elegran Thu 26-Feb-15 16:04:12

Only if I can have trainer wheels, Jings and plenty of cushions.

Elegran Thu 26-Feb-15 16:05:05

That is the same train I am thinking of Marelli. We should synchronise our seat booking.
