April in Edinburgh

A month or so ago we were remembering the big all-day meetup we had in Edinburgh two years ago and there was enthusiasm for doing it again.

Ok - time to get down to some serious planning if it is all to be organised in time foir a Spring Spectacular in April. I shall try to pm everyone who was interested when it was first mentioned, but I hope that there will be others. Last time we had people from the other end of the country, and it was great to see everyone.

Dates first - can I ask you for an idea of when in April you can and particularly when you CANT make it so that I can see what date would suit most people. Is the weekend or a weekday better? Sunday travelling proved tricky last time, but weekdays are not convenient if you are working. There are plenty of places to stay here for anyone who wants to make a city break of it (other halves can join us for lunch if they like)

Venue probably the ROSL www.rosl-edinburgh.org/ subject to availability on our chosen date.

Next - what kind of programme would you like? Last time we had a really good talk about the beaver re-introduction trial (still no decision by Scottish executive on whether that re-introduction is to be made permanent!) and an exhilarating dicsussion on the Scottish Independence referendum, with some Scottish songs to finish. There were other things in reserve, but time ran out. There was coffee and biscuits, and a sit-down lunch.

Just adding my thanks to Elegran and all Gransnetters for a lovely day. Hope you're feeling rested, Elegran...and that the dreaded lurgy hasn't materialised?
Hope too that everyone got home safely ;-)

Back home safe and sound after another great Edinburgh meet up. Thanks as always to Elegran for her organisational skills and hard work, not the mention the science lesson!

Lovely to see friends old and new.

Thank you Marmight for your hospitality once again, I think I'm going to spend the rest of the day "resting my vocal chords" - they've had quite a workout.

Looks as though a good time was had by all. Will be in Edinburgh first week of July if anyone wants to repeat the experience. Would love to meet some Gransnetters smile

Elegran Sun 17-Apr-16 12:02:44

Stake your claim, Bellasnana! Why not start a thread a month or so before you come, asking who would like to join you? I am sure you will get replies from several people.

Geminijen I think it is the dreaded lurgy. Yesterday I woke with a sore throat and a headache, and I couldn't get warm all day, in spite of pilng on jumpers. Went to bed in the afternoon with paracetamol, a hot-water bottle and an extra blanket. This morning, not quite as bad once I had taken more tablets, but throat is starting to feel bad again - it must be four hours since the medication. Time to take more.

Elegran,so disappointed at missing you all! Am better today, no food for 3 days!
So sorry to hear you have dreaded lurggy, I felt absolutely terrible and ended up on antibiotics!flowers

GeminiJen Sun 17-Apr-16 12:47:42

Elegran.
So sorry to hear that you're under the weather flowers
Back to bed with the Sunday papers, a hot drink brew and any goodies left over from Friday cupcake
I talked on the phone to my 4 year old grandson yesterday (the chickenpoxed one) and he announced rather forlornly that 'the poxes are all over me, even on my willy...'
So, it could be worse......grin

Lovely to meet you, gherkin, and your pal. Have you persuaded her to join Gransnet yet? Hoping to 'see' more of both of you on the threads.

Gherkin Sun 17-Apr-16 21:58:05

Yes katek and thatbags, I eventually posted, but you have no idea how long it took me to type with the one finger, really must get a keyboard! Was lovely meeting you all, and I'll keep working on Linda and get her to join us.

Geminijen thank you for the introduction to MOOCS. I've signed up for two; 'Scotland and Wales Vote 2016: Understanding the Devolved Elections' and also 'The Mind is Flat'.

There are plenty of others I'd be interested in too.

Elegran Mon 18-Apr-16 18:48:59

The "Introduction to forensics" started today. Sitting at the laptop doesn't involve speaking, so I have done most of week one. A murder has been committed and we will get more evidence each week until week six, when we have to vote on the murderer. I have an opinion already on whodunnit, but that may change as more details emerge.

I recommend it - and it isn't too late for more people to sign on.
