Meet ups/where are you?
April in Edinburgh
(255 Posts)A month or so ago we were remembering the big all-day meetup we had in Edinburgh two years ago and there was enthusiasm for doing it again.
Ok - time to get down to some serious planning if it is all to be organised in time foir a Spring Spectacular in April. I shall try to pm everyone who was interested when it was first mentioned, but I hope that there will be others. Last time we had people from the other end of the country, and it was great to see everyone.
Dates first - can I ask you for an idea of when in April you can and particularly when you CANT make it so that I can see what date would suit most people. Is the weekend or a weekday better? Sunday travelling proved tricky last time, but weekdays are not convenient if you are working. There are plenty of places to stay here for anyone who wants to make a city break of it (other halves can join us for lunch if they like)
Venue probably the ROSL www.rosl-edinburgh.org/ subject to availability on our chosen date.
Next - what kind of programme would you like? Last time we had a really good talk about the beaver re-introduction trial (still no decision by Scottish executive on whether that re-introduction is to be made permanent!) and an exhilarating dicsussion on the Scottish Independence referendum, with some Scottish songs to finish. There were other things in reserve, but time ran out. There was coffee and biscuits, and a sit-down lunch.
Bags packed and ready to go! ? See you at the station janea, we'll miss you harrigran
ffin one of these days we will manage to get together, third time lucky hopefully, get well soon xx

Looks like there's a good party on at ROSL tonight!
Shock, horror! Just seen the weather forecast for tomorrow - snow ☃
Have fun tonight all you party girls
Apologies everyone, another bout of GP so unable to travel
Am so
Oh no grannylyn you will be missed.
Get well soon.
The party wasn't us Marmight I just walked past last night and saw them in the upper window.
Not long now #excited!
Wishing you all a wonderful day and wishing I could join you. Looking forward to reading your reports tomorrow. Have fun.
Thanks so much to Elegran for the lovely day - and experiment - she organised for us today!
It was really good to meet up with old (not literally, of course!) and new faces. Lunch was delicious, as it always is at ROSL (greedy emoticon)!
Also thanks to Jane10 for the talk and reading she did for us from her book.
A really lovely day!
Wish you could have been with us, Granny23 and Grannylyn65.
Home back in the bright sunny west though there was sleety-looking rain at one point on the journey over and DH said there was snow in Glasgow today.
Lovely day, well organised by elegran. Thank you!
It was great to see old faces and some new ones and to spend chat-tastic time with everyone. Those who couldn't make it this time for whatever decrees of Fate were missed and spoken of as being missed. Here's to better luck next time!
We were so well supplied with cake by the ROSL that I think I'll take a wee plastic food box next time to bring some home; I didn't have room for it after the splendid lunch.
Excellent day. Only wish I'd managed to talk to even more people!! Next time .....
Thanks so much Elegran!
A fab day all round....thank you so much Elegran for all the effort you put into organising today. As Jane10' says I wish I'd had more time to speak to more people. There's always the next meet up! I am now stuffed with food, have broken my diet with pudding and cake and still have 18 teacakes and 30/40 tubes of toothpaste to dispose of! Ee tha's bin a good day.
Hope your having a well-deserved, restful evening Elegran !
Thanks Elegran for a fabulous day.
I am now sat in my hotel with a G&T and a Tunnocks tea cake. No room for any more after lunch and cake galore!
Doing damn-all at the moment. My throat is parched and I am knackerood. I think I may be in for a virus, but it may just be talking too much.
Many thanks to Jane10 and Katek for scrounging contents for the party bags, to "Thatbags for the quiz and Geminijen for the MOOC info. I am signed up for the "Introduction to forensics", which starts at the beginning of next week, if anyone wants to join me. I hope the crime is as easy to solve as our strawberry thief.
(Bags you left your party bag behind (the one with Bags bag 2 on it) On fact, it wasn't the only party bag to be left. There are a couple more, but they are not labelled.)
And thanks to everyone for coming and making it such a success.
So that's over, what's next, then?
Thanks so much Elegran for doing the organising and everyone who was there for being so friendly and chatty. Had a great day. Food and cake was fabulous. Goody bags were fantastic-so much stuff and Gransnet pens!
I realised part way along Princes Street that I'd forgotten my party bag but as I was on my way to the Starbucks off Waverley Steps to pick up the bag with Escallonia cuttings for janeainsworth (she brought me a lovely pelargonia which is now sitting near my landing window; thank you, janea) that I'd left behind this morning, I decided there wasn't time to go back for it.
That Starbucks and I are beginning to have history: last time I was there, after jane10's book launch, I left my wallet! That did not turn up so I had a merry time renewing driving licence, bank card and so on. That'll teach me to be scatty, I thought. Aye, right... so next time I was there I left something else!!
However, katek's quick thinking and rather more advanced phone than mine, quickly found the Starbucks number and they had actually found the bag with plants sticking out of it without suspecting a bomb, and had kept it.
Hey ho! Scat-tastic. My mum was always saying...

Just home via DS's house. A huge thanks to Elegran for organising another smashing day and to everyone involved in making it so enjoyable. Hope your voice is just tired out Elegran and that you feel better in the morning.
Here's to the next time and to those who were unable to make it today.

What a great day Elegran thank you so much for organising us and The Experiment (this one will go down in Gransnet history I think), also to Jane10 for her talk about her book and the tribulations of a published author
Thanks also to Marmight for her hospitality and Bags for the cuttings which were safely retrieved!
Lovely to see old friends and meet some new ones - sorry there wasn't enough time to talk to everyone!
Here's to the next time
Here's to Elegran, Jane10, Katek and thatbags for a grand day out
Lovely to meet everyone too. And what great food.
Thank you Elegran for all your hard work making it such an enjoyable and successful day. Great to meet old and new friends.
and lastly, a very wicked pudding and Marelli with her new friend!
As Marmight was taking loads of photos, I only recorded the excellent lunch which was enhanced by the company.
Lovely to meet you Pittcity. Hope you have a good journey home today!
