Announcing the inaugural meeting of two Gransneters
in Abingdon this morning.
There must be more of you lurking
in the bosky environs of Oxfordshire, and "bohemian" and I
would love to meet you.
We thought Oxford might be reachable for everyone,
even those, like us, who are dependant on public transport.
The Ashmolian has a good cafe where we could meet, plus lots of fascinating exhibits to enjoy.
If the idea of meeting other solo members appeals, a pm to me might help to get this local group off the ground.
Gransnetters of Oxfordshire unite!
Hugs, Leonora 47.

rosesarered Thu 16-Jun-16 17:04:54

Can we all get there for 11 am?
As I'm a local I will get there early to get us a table.

Greenfinch Fri 17-Jun-16 07:55:29

I will join you a bit later as my bus from Reading does not arrive until 11.30 and I need to walk from Castle Street. And before that I need to catch a bus from where I live to Reading. Looking forward to the meet-up.

Anya Fri 17-Jun-16 08:13:01

11.30 would make it a bit easier for me as I'll have to rely on the Park and Ride unless I get a train.

Anya Fri 17-Jun-16 09:23:48

Train booked. Arrives at Oxford Station, allowing form usual delays, at 10.40, which, if I remember correctly, is about a 15 minute walk to the Ashmolean?

Greenfinch Fri 17-Jun-16 09:30:09

Yes,butif it is raining or you didn't feel like walking ,you could catch the 14 bus just outside the station and get off at The Martyrs monument.

rosesarered Fri 17-Jun-16 09:30:46

That's right Anya, it will take about 15 mins, do you remember the way?

rosesarered Fri 17-Jun-16 09:32:55

Oh that's good Greenfinch, we will be there waiting for you.

Anya Fri 17-Jun-16 09:35:11

I should remember the way .. though I'm known for my ability to get lost!!

We will wait for Greenfinch but I'm not guaranteeing there will be any cake left grin

Anya Fri 17-Jun-16 09:36:27

I will NOT rain sunshine

rosesarered Fri 17-Jun-16 09:38:32

Greenfinch Fri 17-Jun-16 09:41:57

Greenfinch Sun 19-Jun-16 15:52:44

Sadly she can't come this time.

I have been away since the Ashmolean thread started. I thoroughly enjoyed the small meet-up we had in Abingdon a few weeks ago but, I confess, I am not enthusiastic about the Ashmolean. Central Oxford is very expensive for me to travel to.

I am travel sick on buses so need to come by train or car. Train means paying £6.00 to park the car at Didcot Parkway as well as my fare and driving and parking means walking in from the Park & Ride, it takes about 30 minutes both ways, which for a coffee event that will only last an hour or so is a lot of travelling time for a short meeting.

Is there anywhere in Summertown that would be suitable. It is well served by buses and parking is not too difficult or expensive and it is easy to access by car.

rosesarered Sun 19-Jun-16 17:51:54

This time [for me] it has to be the Ashmolean, it has lots of seats/tables in the café and some Gnetters are already coming a long way either Reading or MK or further so for them, the centre of Oxford is perfect really. Also although I live locally I have to be back around 3 pm for childcare.
Monica we could always do another in Witney or Abingdon some time soon?where driving and parking is easy.smile

Greenfinch Sun 19-Jun-16 19:10:50

Yes,Summertown is just one bus too far for me.I already have two plus a car drive to begin with. so the. centre of Oxford is better for me.

M0nica Sun 19-Jun-16 19:48:35

That is fine by me. Summertown was only a suggestion. If I can find something else to do in Oxford the day of the meet-up, and I will try, so that I can be there for, say, 4 hours I will come, but not otherwise.

I might have a look at the Reading meet-up. We lived there for many years and I still do a lot of things there, so I could probably do several things while I was there.

Anya Mon 20-Jun-16 23:03:45

My train back isn't until 2.30 as I intend to spend any extra time in the Ashmolean or wandering round Oxford as it's a couple of years since I visited with my GS.

Greenfinch Tue 21-Jun-16 07:07:33

We definitely met for longer than an hour last time. There were about eight of us and although some left early,we had lunch there and held the table until about3pm. I am not saying we will be so long this time as there are fewer of us and some have commitments but I hope it will be for longer than an hour or I will miss most of it !! ⚽

Is this Friday still on at the Ashmolien at 11.00am ?

Can I join you all ?
