I'm coming over to Edinburgh for a family celebration on 8th March. Any meet up arranged there around then? I'm a bit isolated over here in the wilds of County Down. Just asking.

Oh sorry, Bellasgran. Forgot to mention how nice it was to meet you too! blush

Just home and I want to say how much I enjoyed our afternoon yesterday, Scottish Grans! Good company and delicious afternoon tea. Thank you so much Baubles for organising it and thank you those who came. I can now put faces to Baubles, Elegran, Marelli, EllenT and Thatbags ?

Thanks for the photos Thatbags

Just home a little while ago on the slow train west. .it was lovely to meet people again and to meet judthepud (whose name I now know how to pronounce correctly! blush ).

This was our tea:

Lovely tea, lovely grans. Thanks baubles and safe journey home, jud.

Marelli Thu 09-Mar-17 19:36:00

Lovely to see each other again and also to meet judthepud. We had a delicious tea and Mr Marelli has just enjoyed the contents of the doggy-bag box ?!
Thankyou for sorting it for us, baubles.

Elegran Thu 09-Mar-17 19:14:41

Afternoon tea at the gallery was very good as expected. Lovely to meet up again with old friends and put a face to a new one.

Thanks Baubles for arranging this.

Elegran Thu 09-Mar-17 19:11:31

Didn't see any Joan Eardsley, but after we had our afternoon tea, Baubles, thatbags and I had a look round the gallery. Didn't find Mr Darcy, but he can be seen here. Francois-Xavier Fabre:Portrait of a Man 1809
The children I was telling them about were by Sofonisba Anguissola in about 1576, and she also painted "The artist's sisters playing chess" which shows another cheeky-look wee girl (the governess is in the background keepoing an eye on them)

I caught a bit of it Marelli, it was very good.

Marelli Mon 06-Mar-17 16:49:21

Hope to have a look at this, baubles. Did you see the programme on BBC last week?

That's what I thought, Baubles I am looking forward to Thursday!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.

Here's a link to the venue for Jud and anyone else who needs it.

I didn't see your posts Marelli & Elegran and I dare say they wouldn't apply to an existing booking anyway.

Time left to buy this deal seems to run out at about 6 am tomorrow - £24 for two - www.itison.com/Edinburgh/deals/prosecco-afternoon-tea-at-the-scottish-national-gallery though n the voucher can be used well into April.

Should we be doing a concerted buy-up while we can? It asks you to sign in - is anyone subscribed to it who could sign in and order?

Judthepud2 Wed 01-Mar-17 09:16:48

Prosecco afternoon tea ? Sounds good to me!

Marmight Wed 01-Mar-17 09:00:46

I see 'Itison' Edinburgh has an offer today for Prosecco afternoon tea at the Gallery !

Marelli Mon 20-Feb-17 22:01:53

Looking forward to meeting you, too Judthepud2. ☺️

Judthepud2 Mon 20-Feb-17 21:27:09

Sorry baubles I meant to say thank you very much for organising this meet up.

Judthepud2 Mon 20-Feb-17 21:24:58

Hello all! As my little invalid is showing signs of improving greatly, DH and I are planning to attend our family event as planned. So, I am confirming I'll be there for afternoon tea on 9th. So looking forward to meeting you all then. Could someone possibly PM me where to find the venue please? I don't know Edinburgh at all.

baubles Wed 15-Feb-17 19:46:40

Oops that was my mistake. I meant afternoon tea although they also serve high tea, which, as you say Mawbroon is a bit more substantial. It does still feature scones though.

Elegran Wed 15-Feb-17 17:56:19

Afternoon tea was mentioned earlier. High tea has just crept in.

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 17:53:02

May I just ask if you are really planning "High Tea" or Afternoon Tea?
I have noticed how posh hotels some upmarket eateries now tend refer to sandwiches/sconeswith cream and jam/dainty cakes etc as "High Tea" but I always understood High Tea to be a "knife and fork" meal with the addition of a pot of tea eaten at the table.
I wonder how the Ritz would respond to my ordering a ham salad as was often served at my Scottish granny's for High Tea.
